Chapter 717
โCaden,โ Benedict called. Caden paused, without turning.
โAlicia will be your downfall,โ Benedict said, his voice flat. โAnd you will be hers.โ
At the hospital, Aliciaโs dizziness subsided after taking her medication. She touched her abdomen, relieved to find no discomfort. Behind the curtain, Caden spoke with the doctor.
โMs. Bennett was drugged, but itโs not severe. Sheโll need a few daysโ rest, but there are no injuries. She can be discharged this afternoon,โ the doctor said calmly.
Caden remained stoic. โAre there any side effects?โ
โNo, though a large dose was administered. She wonโt remember anything after passing out,โ the doctor replied.
Aliciaโs ears pricked up at the sound of Cadenโs voice. She slowly sat up.
โAnd Blake?โ Caden asked, his tone sharper. โWhat was he given?โ
Alicia froze, listening intently. The doctor sighed heavily. โA potent aphrodisiac, with potentially dangerous consequences. If not relieved, it could be fatal.โ
A tense silence followed.
โBut he survived,โ Caden stated coldly.
Aliciaโs hands trembled as she stood, the urge to see Caden overcoming her hesitation. His detached voice drifted from beyond the curtain. โLet me know when she wakes up.โ
Panic seized Alicia. She rushed out barefoot, ignoring the cold floor. Pulling back the curtain, she cried, โCaden!โ
He stopped and turned, his eyes narrowing at the sight of her, thinly clad and unsteady. His expression tightened as he approached and lifted her into his arms.
โYouโre not well yet. Why rush out?โ
Alicia clung to him. The damage was done; anger wouldn't help. She only wanted to reassure him, to quell his doubts.
โCaden, let them do a checkup,โ she whispered, setting aside her pride. โLet them prove it to you, please.โ
Caden gently placed her back on the bed, his hand covering her face, shielding her from his expression.
โI trust you,โ he said softly. โThereโs no need for a checkup.โ
