Chapter 712

He dialed her number, pressing the phone to his ear. It rang unanswered. Frustrated, he called Joy Mansion. Aylin's cheerful voice answered.

"Good morning, Mr. Ward. You're calling quite early. Is there something you need?"

Caden's voice was steady, but urgent.

"Did Alicia stay at Joy Mansion last night?"

Aylin paused. "She did come by, sir, but I was just finishing my shift, so I'm not certain if she stayed overnight. One moment, pleaseโ€”I'll check the guest room."

Aylin put down the receiver and saw Benedict descending the stairs, frowning deeply.

"Good morning, Mr. Ward," she greeted him.

He stopped, his eyes narrowing. "Who's on the phone?"

"It's Mr. Caden Ward," Aylin replied. "He's asking if Ms. Bennett is here. Have you seen her?"

Benedict's expression tightened at the mention of Alicia's name. "Leave. I'll handle this," he said, dismissing her.

Sensing the tension, Aylin hurried away. Moments earlier, Benedict had received an anonymous call claiming Alicia had betrayed Caden, even naming a hotel. He didn't know if it was true, but he had to verify it. The timing was suspicious, and he couldn't fathom why someone would send him such news. But one thing was clearโ€”Caden couldn't find out. Not now. Caden had been through too much; if Alicia had betrayed him, it would devastate him.

"Benedict, why aren't you saying anything?" Caden's sharp voice broke through Benedict's thoughts.

Benedict blinked, gripping the receiver. "She's here at Joy Mansion," he lied, the weight of the words heavy upon him. "I'll have her call you once she wakes up."

Caden was unconvinced. "Have her call me now. Tell Aylin to knock on her door."

Silence hung heavy between them, deepening Caden's suspicion.

"She isn't there, is she?" Caden's voice was strained. "Benedict, this is too important. Don't keep me in the dark."

The worry and fear in Caden's voice tugged at Benedict's conscience. Even exhausted, Caden's concern for Alicia was unwavering. What was it about her that inspired such loyalty? Benedict couldn't understand.

He closed his eyes briefly. "Caden, I'm ending the call now. I'll reach out to you later."

"Benedict, wait!" Caden shouted, but only the dial tone answered.
