Chapter 689

Caden restrained himself, despite the intense desire he felt. He left the bed and called housekeeping for sanitary pads and warm water. Outside, the night sky still glowed with the afterglow of his proposal. After caring for Alicia, they cuddled, awaiting sleep. Caden's hand rested on her lower abdomen, its warmth soothing her mild ache.

"You'll have to abstain for at least a week," Alicia teased.

Caden swept his thumb across her lips. "You'll feel better in a couple of days. I'm sure we can manage something by then."

Alicia's cheeks burned as she playfully bit his thumb. He didn't flinch, instead slipping a finger in to tease her tongue.

"You're really something else," he rasped. "This mouth feels exactly like the one down there."

Alicia quickly covered his mouth, silencing him. They were entwined in another passionate kiss when his phone rang. Reluctantly, he pulled away.

"I really might have to take this."

Knowing Hank, Caden was sure he was frantic. Ignoring him further risked an unannounced visit, which would upset Alicia.

She clutched his hand. "What's really going on, Caden?"

He couldn't hide it any longer. "There have been some company issues. I'll probably be stuck there until dawn. Don't wait up. Sleep well. Good night."

He dressed, but a certain part of his anatomy remained stubbornly awake, hindering his attempts to zip his trousers. Alicia watched, a mixture of sympathy and amusement on her face.

"Come back early," she called, her flushed face speaking volumes.

Caden felt a surge of emotion, yet company matters still weighed heavily on his mind.
