Chapter 662:
Caden, with no change in his expression, picked up the phone and held it to his ear.
โWhat do you want to discuss?โ
Alicia clenched her teeth.
โCome home. We need to talk in person.โ
Caden wasnโt in the mood to meet her, knowing it would likely lead to an argument.
โI canโt come back. Iโm too drunk to drive.โ
โIโll come back after Iโve sobered up in the morning.โ
Alicia opposed, โStop with the excuses. Canโt you call a driver? Where is your chauffeur?โ
โDo you really need me to spell it out?โ Caden said irritably, loosening his tie.
โI donโt want to come home.โ
Alicia fell quiet.
Caden, feeling a tightness in his throat, added, โItโs not that I canโt return. Iโll give you a chance to prove yourself. Come pick me up.โ
Frustrated, Alicia slammed the phone down.
Cadenโs irritation quickly turned to cold fear. He stood still, phone in hand, frozen.
Gerry, still drunk, leaned on Caden.
โMore drinks? I canโt, or Iโll end up dead here.โ
Caden pushed him away with a cold look and dialed Cliff.
Cliff arrived and startled Gerry awake with a sharp slap.
After a few minutes, Gerry groggily cursed, โWho the hell hit me?โ
Caden stayed silent.
Gerry, leaning on Cliffโs shoulder, blinked.
โCliff, why are you here? Are you really my brother?โ
Without responding, Cliff smacked him on the head again.
โSee clearly now?โ
Gerry muttered, โYeah, I see.โ
Expressionless, Caden walked out with them, stepping into the night air to light a cigarette. The smoke surrounded his sharp features, emphasizing the loneliness on his face.
After throwing Gerry into the car, Cliff asked, โNeed a ride home?โ
Caden refused.
โDonโt worry about me.โ
Cliff, noticing that something was bothering Caden, said, โYou smell like alcohol.โ
โDonโt drive carelessly. Itโs better to have someone come get you.โ
Caden took another drag from his cigarette.
Out of pride, he claimed, โAlicia will come for me.โ
Cliff nodded in acknowledgment and drove away.
