Alicia’s eyes widened in alarm. “What kind of problem?”

“He’s been losing money on his films, all financed by his family. His father already has issues with him, and now, with this disastrous film, he’s bound to get a severe reprimand.”

Alicia clutched Caden’s hand tightly, her heart racing.

“What should we do? I need to see the Hopkins family and apologize. I’ll tell them it was all my fault.” She began changing her clothes. Caden set aside his project plan and followed her. Alicia quickly selected two outfits. “You are coming with me.”

Caden shook his head. “I don’t want to join the chaos.”

Alicia retorted, “What chaos? I don’t know what the Hopkins family is like. What if his father gets so furious he attacks me? You could at least help mediate.”

Caden imagined the scenario and smirked. “I might reconsider,” he said, his gaze lingering on Alicia’s slender waist, “if you sweet-talk me a bit.”

Alicia rolled her eyes. “Fine, then I’ll take Cade with me. At least he can protect me.” Caden was taken aback by her words, the surprise evident on his face.

When Alicia called Gerry, he was already distraught. Caden was right; he’d just received a message from home demanding his immediate return for punishment. Clinging to the hope that Alicia would join him, Gerry exclaimed, “My mom really likes you. If you come, my dad might go easy on me because of you. Where are you? I’ll come pick you up.”

Alicia replied, “I’m at my apartment.”

Stubborn as always, Caden ignored his better judgment and resolved to stay. He sat by the window, working and enjoying the sun. Meanwhile, Alicia, accompanied by the border collie, left.

Suddenly, Caden saw Gerry stepping out of his flashy sports car to speak with Alicia. A frown creased his brow; Gerry always attracted attention. With a frustrated huff, Caden tossed aside his work and followed them downstairs.

As Gerry was about to drive off, he saw Caden approaching and blinked in surprise. “What are you doing here?”
