“She’s still in intensive care,” Hank replied somberly. “She caused a scene at the cemetery, refusing to kneel, then banged her head against a gravestone until she passed out. Dorian eventually sent someone to take her away.”

Caden felt Alicia’s grip tighten. He laced his fingers through hers, offering a reassuring look. “Head to the hospital and report back as soon as there’s an update,” he told Hank.

“Understood, Mr. Ward,” Hank responded.

After hanging up, Caden called the city’s top hospital, arranging for the best surgical team to be on standby. Alicia understood; he’d sent Hank to verify Yolanda’s intentions and was taking precautions, even though he still held the Moss family in some regard. The situation was incredibly complex, and Alicia felt uncertain.

“Will you go see her?” she asked tentatively. She’d been so consumed by anger, she’d forgotten Yolanda’s extreme tendencies. If revenge was her goal, Yolanda certainly had the means to inflict suffering. But Caden had anticipated this.

“No,” he replied calmly. “Hank’s immediate awareness of the incident proves it’s a ploy to lure me. Yolanda wouldn’t kill herself; it’s just another dramatic trick.”

Alicia remained uneasy. “I’m worried Dorian might retaliate.”

Caden remained unfazed. “Don’t worry about that.” He wanted to keep her uninvolved.

Back at the apartment, they showered, but Alicia’s mind remained troubled. “Why haven’t we heard from the hospital?”

Caden gazed at her, gently smoothing her brow. “Why are you so worried? I didn’t give Yolanda the knife. There’s no reason to be anxious.”

Alicia pressed her lips together and leaned against him.
