Chapter 563

Caden retorted, “Dorian’s condition for cooperation is that I marry his daughter. Do you truly believe I would accept such a demand?”

“Is there anything wrong with Yolanda? She’s a far superior match to Alicia, that utterly useless woman. Marriages between influential families offer considerable advantages. You’re twenty-five; how can you not grasp this simple truth?”

Caden laughed coldly. “Uncle, why did you disregard Grandfather’s advice regarding a strategic marriage back then?”

Benedict’s expression shifted subtly. “We’re discussing the Moss family. Why are you involving me?”

Caden replied, “If you were in my shoes, your reaction might not be so composed.”

Benedict was momentarily speechless. Though frustrated, he couldn't deny the depth of Caden's feelings for Alicia.

He waved his hand in exasperation. “Fine, I won’t persuade you further. Do as you wish. Just remember, you’ll one day understand the trouble a woman lacking skills can cause.”

Caden responded with surprising calm, “Alicia is more capable than Yolanda.”

Benedict chuckled, as if amused by a joke. “Her? If she can prove her capability, I’ll sincerely apologize and give my approval!”

Caden remained silent, finding his uncle’s childish remarks incomprehensible. “Do you really think she needs your apology?” he mused. “And your approval? She can do as she pleases; it’s none of your concern.”

Benedict’s eyes widened, and he waved his hand in mock fury. “You little rascal!”

Leaving the study, Caden approached the housekeeper, Aylin, and inquired about Alicia’s departure. Aylin sighed heavily. “She left on her own. The driver offered her a ride, but she refused. She seemed quite upset.”

A strange feeling stirred in Caden’s chest. “Did she…?”

Aylin hesitated. “I didn’t look closely.”

Caden knew Alicia, beneath her bravado, was fragile and easily hurt. She had likely cried.

Later, while visiting Ciara, Caden noticed something missing from the custom-made tea set on the table—Ciara’s cherished, custom-made piece.
