Chapter 529:
Caden leisurely answered Dorian’s furious call. “Caden!” Dorian’s voice was hoarse with rage. “Did you put that snake there?”
“What snake?” Caden replied.
“Don’t pretend! You know Yolanda’s terrified of snakes since childhood. This was you, wasn't it? Even those criminals in the cell—you wanted to scare her to death!”
Caden chuckled softly. “If you have the guts,” Dorian spat, “come at me!”
“Oh? Then, if Yolanda’s planning something, do it for her. I’ll come for your head without hesitation.”
Dorian sputtered. “Mark my words, Caden—if the doctors find any evidence of Yolanda’s assault, you’ll pay with your life.”
“I can’t guarantee anything,” Caden said with a sardonic smile. “Those men haven’t touched a woman in a long time.”
Dorian hung up, furious. Caden smirked, placing down the phone. He’d handled it well; the Moss family would lie low. He’d also used information from Terriland to suppress Corey. Caden felt like an insurmountable wall to his enemies.
Yet, Alicia had misgivings. Would things always be so easy? Making enemies of Corey and the Moss family meant Caden needed to tread carefully; one misstep could be disastrous.
Meanwhile, Benedict woke to a restless night. He grumbled, pulling himself from bed. He remembered Caden was bringing Alicia today. Knowing this, and given Ciara’s condition, Jasmine had no choice but to approach him.
“Mr. Ward, what should we prepare for lunch?”
“What do you mean?” Benedict snapped. “My head’s pounding. If that brat wants to bring his woman for lunch, let them fend for themselves!”
Jasmine remained calm. “With respect, Mr. Ward, if Master Caden brings Miss Bennett home to meet the family and finds the house empty, it would disgrace the Ward family.”
Indignation washed over Benedict. While disliking Alicia, he knew Caden’s stubbornness. Bringing the girl home and then acting childishly would be disgraceful. He also needed to keep Ciara calm. So, Benedict called in professional chefs. He had a reputation to uphold.
He ensured only the finest ingredients were used. By lunchtime, everything was ready. Benedict surveyed the table, nodding in satisfaction, his features softening. Then, Jasmine entered with a somber expression.
