Chapter 502:
Dorianโs voice was cold. โI admire Cadenโs skill; our friendship spans two decades. But Iโve made it clear: Yolanda is my only daughter, and I treasure her above all else. He keeps hurting her.โ
Alicia retorted, โYolanda brought this on herself.โ
โRight or wrong, Yolanda will get what she wants. You may think Cadenโs support empowers you, Alicia, but be prepared for the consequences,โ Dorian stated firmly.
Alicia stared at him. A strange, painful tightness constricted her throat. โItโs sad when a father reaches this point.โ
Dorianโs eyes flashed with mockery. โAnd what about your father, Miss Bennett? What kind of father did you have?โ
Aliciaโs heart twisted. The pain was unbearable. Dorian had always known her background, once pitying her as an orphan. Now, he wielded that knowledge like a weapon. โYou grew up without a fatherโs care, but Yolanda has mine. Iโll protect her always and give her whatever she desires.โ
Aliciaโs fists clenched. โPeople can survive without love. Fatherly devotion isnโt irreplaceable,โ she countered.
Dorianโs dismissive expression and mocking gaze sent a shiver down her spine. Alicia fled, moving like a small animal sensing danger. Dorian held back further remarks, sensing heโd struck a nerve. Watching her retreat, he saw a flicker of vulnerability in her eyes, but his expression hardened quickly as he got into his car.
Once Yolanda was stable, Dorian decided to confront Caden by supporting Corey. His wife, Regina, immediately tried to stop him, but his usual gentleness was gone. โGo home, Regina. This is my business.โ
She clung to him. โYouโll regret this, Dorian.โ
โThis is Cadenโs choice,โ he replied. โThey did nothing wrong. Our daughter is to blame!โ
Dorian met his wifeโs red-rimmed eyes, surprised to see the same disappointment and disdain Alicia had shown. It startled him; it was uncanny. His heart clenched as he thought of Yolanda, weak and vulnerable. A fierce protectiveness surged within him. โI donโt want Yolanda to suffer anymore.โ
Regina shook her head sadly. โWhat happened to you?โ
Dorianโs tone was unwavering. โI havenโt changed. You risked your life to give me Yolanda, and I vowed to protect you both.โ
โYolanda has changed, Dorian. Sheโs not worth it. Donโt make this worse,โ Regina said softly.
But Dorian remained immovable. โCaden isnโt worth it. If our daughter wants something, who am I to deny her?โ
Seeing his resolve, Regina felt a wave of disappointment. Her expression turned icy as she released his hand. โFine, go ahead. But letโs see what good youโll get from using force.โ
Later, back at her apartment, Alicia drifted into a restless sleep. In her dreams, her long-gone parents appeared. Her father seemed even harsher than she remembered, his gaze cold and filled with disdain. But once, he had loved her dearly.
