Chapter 498:
Yolandaโs heart pounded. Losing Corey as a partner was unthinkable. โYou canโt touch Corey! My father wonโt let you get away with this!โ
Gerry chuckled, a sly grin spreading across his face. โSince when did your father become so close to Corey? Are theyโฆ involved?โ
Yolandaโs fury erupted. โWhat nonsense are you spouting?โ
โHow is it nonsense? Why else would they be so close?โ Unable to argue, Yolanda redirected her anger at Alicia. โAlicia, youโre just an art collector. Why are you stirring up trouble on Coreyโs turf?โ
Gerry frowned. โKeep it down, or Iโll gag you!โ
Alicia suddenly asked, โYolanda, did you design those mannequins?โ
Coreyโs gaze shifted to Yolanda. He subtly urged her to confess. After all, her father, Dorian, had her back; heโd clean up any mess. Corey preferred to remain uninvolved.
Yolanda deflected, her voice cool and dismissive. โWhy does it matter to you?โ
Alicia smiled gently. โNaturally, to hold the instigator accountable. Whoever conceived and crafted the mannequinsโIโll settle the score today.โ
As she spoke, Gerry swung a baseball bat, smashing a priceless vase. Shards flew across the room. Yolanda felt her composure fraying, her demise unfolding in slow motion. Gasping, she shouted, โYou dare threaten me? Mark my words, youโre all doomed!โ
Alicia responded with calm resolve. โI wonโt harm innocents. Whoever is responsible will be held accountable.โ
Coreyโs frown deepened. Yolanda was sharp and malicious, but Alicia had deliberately sent Gerry to unsettle her, knowing Yolandaโs sheltered nature would lead to a deflection.
Yolandaโs glance at Corey spoke volumes. His gaze was cold, his message clear: the mistake was hers, and she would face the consequences alone.
Just as Yolanda opened her mouth, Alicia turned back to Corey. โMr. Hampton, who do you think is responsible?โ
Coreyโs reply was laced with irony. โWhy ask when you already know, Ms. Bennett?โ
โCaution is wise,โ Alicia retorted sharply.
Corey sidestepped the question. โHave you considered the repercussions? Whether itโs Yolanda or me, your impulsiveness will only cause more trouble for Caden. Youโre playing with fire.โ
Alicia chuckled. โCorey, if Caden were handling this, do you think youโd be standing here?โ
Corey was stunned. Caden was unaware of the mannequin affair, and Aliciaโs swift action was a desperate attempt to keep it that way. She was undeniably brave; heโd never met a woman so fearless. While he envied Caden, he also respected Alicia. She wasnโt just a social climber. But this wasnโt the day to be Yolandaโs hero. She wasnโt worth it.
