Chapter 487

Aliciaโ€™s cheeks flushed. โ€œWhat? Of course not.โ€ His gaze held hers, deep and unwavering. He reached for her hand, his fingers gently clasping her ring fingerโ€”a touch that seemed to reach her very heart. Feeling the warmth of his touch, Alicia pulled away, trying to steady herself. โ€œDidnโ€™t you say we were going to dinner? Letโ€™s go.โ€

Downstairs, a gust of wind stung their eyes. It cooled Aliciaโ€™s flustered cheeks, carrying away her racing thoughts and leaving a lingering silence between them. Caden glanced at her, feeling a pull he couldnโ€™t quite articulate. Proposing felt too naive, too rawโ€”something he couldnโ€™t yet bring himself to do.

In a private dining room, the Moss family sat together. Yolanda had recovered well in the last few days; her complexion was improved, and sheโ€™d taken extra care with her makeup and attire. โ€œDo you like my hair?โ€ she crooned at her father. โ€œIt took me three hours to style it.โ€ Dorian looked at her indulgently. โ€œIt looks great, Yolanda. You always look beautiful.โ€ Yolanda blushed. โ€œThen Caden will probably like it too.โ€

Dorianโ€™s smile faded. Caden had agreed to dinner, but everyone knew it was merely to appease Yolandaโ€™s persistent badgering. Dorian knew his daughter was in for another disappointment. He remained silent to avoid upsetting her, but Regina took a different approach. โ€œHas Caden agreed to date you?โ€ she asked bluntly.

The tension between mother and daughter had been building. Yolandaโ€™s mood soured. โ€œNot verbally, but he helped me pick out this dress. That must mean something, right?โ€

โ€œIf he hasnโ€™t said anything along those lines, then you shouldnโ€™t get your hopes up,โ€ Regina said matter-of-factly.

Yolanda frowned and snapped, โ€œCan you please stop bursting my bubble?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll do it again and again if it takes to bring you back to reality. Otherwise, your delusions will only grow, leading you to make worse decisions,โ€ Regina replied, clearly displeased with her daughterโ€™s involvement with Corey. โ€œCorey had better stop with his schemes. It isnโ€™t wise. If he tries to manipulate Caden again, your father and I will intervene.โ€

Yolanda exploded. She turned to her father and demanded, โ€œWhose side are you on, mine or Momโ€™s?โ€

โ€œYolanda,โ€ Dorian said sternly, โ€œyou are in the wrong this time.โ€

โ€œIf you wonโ€™t help me, then Iโ€™ll do everything myself. Whatโ€™s wrong with pursuing my one true love?โ€ Yolanda retorted.

โ€œThis will only make Caden dislike you more and push him further away,โ€ Regina warned.

Yolanda, ever the brat, slammed her fist on the table. โ€œLook, if you donโ€™t want to be my mother anymore, just say so! Iโ€™ll gladly sever our relationship for good!โ€

Regina didnโ€™t respond. The door opened, and Caden entered with Alicia. Yolanda, still seething, froze at the sight of them, a mix of shock and horror on her face. Caden had never mentioned bringing Alicia. Alicia carried a gift bag, and her elegant dress perfectly complemented Cadenโ€™s debonair appearance, especially as she nestled in his arms. โ€œGood evening, Mr. and Mrs. Moss,โ€ Alicia greeted softly, a delicate blush on her cheeks. Reginaโ€™s eyes flickered as she stared at Alicia.
