Chapter 470:
“Leftovers are for pets. Are you trying to compete with a dog now?”
“What are you saying, Caden? I helped you vent your anger by filming an adult movie at Corey’s place, and you won’t even let me have leftovers? Should I just jump out of the car and run into traffic?”
Caden said nothing, but the passenger door unlocked with a click. Gerry’s jaw dropped. Caden glanced sideways. “What are you waiting for? Do you need me to open the door and toss you out myself?”
Alicia, needing no instruction, prepared two extra dishes. Later, at the police station, Caden learned Gerry had harassed Corey—all in support of him. Naturally, Alicia felt grateful.
Upon returning home, the aroma of freshly cooked food greeted Caden. He glanced at Alicia. “You don’t have to pamper him like this,” he remarked, though Gerry was already grinning and washing his hands.
Scrubbing vigorously, Gerry grumbled, “Caden, you’re heartless! That dog of yours hasn’t known you nearly as long as I have, and yet you treat him better than me.”
Alicia looked puzzled. “Huh? What do you mean by that?”
Drying his hands, Gerry explained, “I told him I’d come over to eat the leftovers, and he said those were for the dog.” Alicia stifled a laugh, her lips twitching.
Caden sat down, barely glancing up. “At least the dog wags his tail for me after he eats. What can you do? Direct some lowbrow flick?”
Gerry was speechless. Alicia raised an eyebrow, glancing at Gerry.
“Mr. Hopkins, what exactly drove you to do all that?”
Gerry, though usually shameless, felt awkward being called out. “I did it to ruffle Corey’s feathers, that’s all.”
Caden shook his head. “You’re sabotaging yourself to annoy him. He can pack up and move on, but that stunt will stay online forever. Just look at your social media—your fans are heartbroken.”
Gerry stuffed a chicken wing into his mouth, savoring the tender meat. He sighed contentedly. “No need to check my social media. Even if I hadn’t pulled this stupid stunt, people would still be criticizing me.”
Caden recalled Gerry’s last movie—a massive budget flop, propped up only by aggressive marketing.
After eating, Gerry slouched back, letting the meal settle. Alicia called the housekeeper to clear the table, then brewed a digestive drink of apples and hawthorn. She poured each of them a glass.
As they sipped, Caden lowered his gaze to his phone, browsing for a watch to buy Gerry. Absurd as his actions were, Gerry had done it for Caden and deserved a reward. While filling in the address, Caden asked, “Where are you staying these days?”
