Chapter 454:
Why would Corey suddenly commission a painting from Alicia? Caden called Hank, asking, "Has Yolanda been seeing Corey often lately?"
Hank replied, "They've met a few times." Sensing something was amiss, Hank had already arranged surveillance in Devarlton. Unlike Caden, whose life revolved around work and rushing home to his sweetheart, Hank was more cautious.
After a brief conversation, Caden hung up. Hank pushed open the door and asked, "Is something wrong, Mr. Ward?"
Caden remained silent, preoccupied. Corey's purchase of the painting and meetings with Yolanda felt unsettling. It didn't seem like a good sign. Hank, piecing things together, exclaimed, "Corey stayed at the Moss family residence. Could he be plotting to use them against us?"
Caden responded coldly, "I don't think so." If Corey wanted to oppose him, he would have done so long ago. They had once been friends, but competition and profit had driven them apart. Corey wasn't the type to destroy others for personal gain.
Hank countered, "Mr. Ward, people change. Corey built his empire from scratch. He's tasted wealth and luxury; his appetite might be insatiable."
Caden understood Hank's concerns. He had two options: ally with Corey, returning clients to demonstrate loyalty, or confront any challenge head-on. Hank knew Caden would never choose the first. Caden appeared courageous and wise, but pride often hindered his willingness to reconcile.
Caden remained silent, allowing Hank to leave. Since Corey hadn't acted yet, there was no need to rush. He would observe Corey's first move before reacting.
Meanwhile, upon receiving the painting, a smile spread across Corey's face. He admired it, pausing before looking again. "I've always admired your mother's paintings, but sadly, she created so few. The only finished one you've kept as a rare treasure—I couldn't even buy it. I didn't expect you to inherit all her talents."
Alicia's eyes flickered. "Thank you for your kind words, Mr. Hampton." She gracefully invited him into a private room.
