Chapter 418

Alicia stared at him silently, contemplating his words. She didn't confront Caden about his motives, instead asking, "Did you contact me yesterday because of Mr. Langstaff?" Was his insecurity stemming from their trip together?

Caden looked down, concealing his emotions. He wouldn't admit the truth, instead countering with a question of his own. "When Jerald faced those issues that day, did you feel happy for me?"

Alicia's eyes briefly sparkled. "That was your business. Why would I rejoice?"

Caden smiled. "Thanks. The dessert that day was exceptional."

Later, Caden took Cade home. Alicia didn't question his decision. She occasionally visited the puppy, her visits becoming increasingly frequent until Caden began suggesting she stay overnight. One rainy evening, he kept her late. Unable to leave, she found herself enveloped in his embrace.

"I've stocked up on new toiletries for you. You'll want for nothing," he said, kissing her cheek gently. "It's late. How about a shower, then some sleep?"

Alicia's cheeks flushed. It wasn't even eight o'clock. Clearly, he was eager to progress things. Yet, after his kisses and caresses, her resistance waned.

Thunder rumbled outside. Despite the storm, the air crackled with tension. Alicia gazed into Caden's deep eyes and asked, "Aren't you afraid of thunderstorms? Can you handle them?" She immediately regretted the question.

Caden understood her subtle hint. "I used to be bothered by them, but last time, someone wore a charming dress to comfort me."

Remembering that moment, Alicia's cheeks burned. She tried to pull away, but Caden held her close, carrying her to the bathroom. "Caden, I haven't said yes yet," she protested as the door closed behind them.

After a time, Caden, though noticeably gentler than before, exhausted Alicia repeatedly, ensuring she wasn't harmed. Afterwards, he showed no fatigue, even taking urgent work calls.

Alicia rested weakly on the bed, watching him. His every action radiated a dangerous charm, the remnants of passion still evident. Her body felt limp, her thoughts muddled. She struggled to comprehend the intimacy they'd shared.

Once he finished his calls, Caden glanced at her, understanding her unspoken thoughts. Alicia hid under the covers, unable to meet his gaze.

"Open the drawer and hand me a document," he instructed.

Too drained to move, Alicia weakly replied, "Get it yourself."

"It's in the nightstand to your right. It's not difficult."
