Chapter 390

โ€œIโ€™ve contacted his family, but it may take a few days for a response,โ€ Ciara explained. โ€œHis parents are imprisoned. Iโ€™m unsure how heโ€™s managed all these years, and I donโ€™t know who else to contact.โ€

Caden showed little interest. He felt Ciara simply needed something to occupy her time, and the boy provided companionship. โ€œWhatever you decide,โ€ he said. โ€œIf you canโ€™t reach his family, Iโ€™ll file a police report, and he can stay here.โ€

Ciara readily agreed, adding thoughtfully, โ€œBut however much I care for him, heโ€™s still someone elseโ€™s child and could leave at any time. A great-grandchild of my own would be more ideal.โ€

Caden replied, โ€œThen youโ€™ll need patience. Iโ€™m not even married yet.โ€

Ciara urged, โ€œThen you should put more effort into finding a wife.โ€

Caden glanced at Alicia. โ€œIf all goes well, next year. If not, within three years.โ€

Ciara teased, โ€œIs that to find a wife or to give me a great-grandchild?โ€

โ€œThe latter, of course.โ€

Alicia was startled. Where did he find such confidence? She subtly stepped on his footโ€”the same tender spot sheโ€™d hit the previous night. He winced.

Ciara, confused, asked, โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€

Caden, feigning nonchalance, continued peeling a crab. โ€œIt pinched me.โ€

Ciara looked uncertain. โ€œIsnโ€™t it cooked?โ€

โ€œI must be so handsome, it decided to come back to life.โ€

Ciara stared. โ€œAre you nuts?โ€

Alicia, unable to contain herself, quietly laughed. Caden grinned, deciding the pain was worth it. He transferred the peeled crab meat to Aliciaโ€™s plate. Even though she was full, she politely finished it. Caden, possessing a hearty appetite, devoured his own portion. Ciara watched discreetly, smiling only when heโ€™d finished.

After they ate, Alicia went upstairs to check on Ray. Caden watched her but didnโ€™t immediately follow. โ€œIs that boy close to Alicia?โ€ he asked.

Ciara took a sip of tea. โ€œNot particularly. They met by chance on the street; heโ€™s a distant relative.โ€

Caden pressed, โ€œThen why did she go upstairs?โ€

โ€œHe has autism. There was a minor disagreement before we returned, and now heโ€™s locked himself in his room, refusing to see anyone. Sheโ€™s gone to check on him.โ€
