Chapter 378

As she opened the car door, a hand reached out to stop her. Alicia's hand tightened on the handle, but she remained still. She didn't need to glance back; his familiar scent betrayed him. Caden's gaze was fixed on her profile.

"Did you not enjoy them?" he asked.

Alicia dropped her gaze. "They are fireworks," she murmured. "How could they not be beautiful?" But those fireworks were never intended for her. What right did she have to judge their beauty?

Caden stepped closer, his voice steady. "I arranged the fireworks some time ago. Since you chose not to meet with me, this was the only way I could share them." As Madison had mentioned, fireworks of this caliber were exceptionally rare, requiring considerable effort on his part. He wasn't seeking praise; he simply remarked, "Alicia, it feels like ages since you've allowed me to hold you as I want."

Alicia remained motionless. Caden interpreted her silence as consent and enveloped her in his arms. Her cheek rested against his chest, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat echoing in her ears, stirring a whirlwind of emotions. In her current state, she perceived everything with heightened clarity. Was it truly the fireworks that captivated her? Or were the thoughtful gestures behind them far more resonant?

Unable to resist, Alicia instinctively clutched at his shirt, seeking solace. Slowly, she raised her head. Caden, sensing her unspoken desire, leaned in, the distance between them shrinking. Alicia rose onto her tiptoes.

Just as their lips were about to meet, Caden abruptly halted, placing his hand between them. Alicia's eyes met his, a flicker of understanding passing between them.

His voice was hoarse. "Does our agreement still stand?"

Alicia remained silent, but the quick flash in her eyes spoke volumes. Her attempted kiss had been a calculated move, intended to nullify their agreement. A kiss would have signified his loss.

Frustrated by her failed plan, Alicia stepped back towards the car. Caden, his heart racing, pulled her back. "I want to hold you a little longer," he said.

Alicia didn't resist. Everything depended on his mood. If he was generous, he would honor their agreement; otherwise, he might overstep, leaving her powerless.

Caden cradled her face gently, a hint of reluctance in his voice. "You've become quite the strategist, Alicia," he observed, his tone both resigned and restrained—a restraint that only heightened his allure.

A warmth surged through Alicia's palms. She responded evenly, "I learned from the best, Mr. Ward."

Caden brushed his lips lightly against hers, his eyes filled with desire.
