Chapter 320
“When you delivered the painting to Joy Mansion, who signed for it?” she asked.
Her assistant lowered her voice. “Mr. Ward.”
Knowing a little about Caden and Alicia’s history, she sighed. “You should have gone yourself. He’s still as handsome as ever.”
Alicia smiled faintly. “There are plenty of handsome men out there.”
“Not like him! Mr. Ward is on another level,” her assistant exclaimed, clasping her hands together. “I just hope I find a boyfriend who’s even half as handsome as Mr. Ward!” She paused, corrected herself, and laughed. “Okay, if that’s too much, I’d settle for a male model with a tenth of his looks!” Her hearty laughter filled the air. Alicia smiled at her assistant’s wide grin.
Afterwards, Alicia drove to the pet hospital to check on Cade’s wound. She had brought a gift for the attending doctor, who was kind. But the doctor wasn't in his office. Searching for him, she was surprised to find Caden in a separate room. Alicia froze. The doctor was speaking with Caden, who turned and met her gaze.
Caden was dressed unusually casually; a light-colored, loose sweater gave him an air of understated elegance, making him seem even more refined. His dark eyes held the same magnetic charm, captivating as ever. Alicia quickly averted her gaze.
The doctor greeted her enthusiastically, “Ms. Bennett! What a pleasant surprise! You both arrived one after the other. What are the odds?”
Smiling, Alicia did her best to ignore Caden as she stepped forward. “How is Lucky doing?” she asked, slightly embarrassed mentioning the name in Caden’s presence. (Caden had named him; she’d originally chosen “Cade,” but it felt impossible to say after their breakup.)
Caden, acting like a gentleman, moved aside so Alicia could see Lucky. The doctor explained, “He’s recovering well. You can take him home for Christmas and bring him back tomorrow. He’ll be just fine.”
Alicia’s eyes lit up with relief. “Thank God!”
Caden turned to the doctor. “It’s getting late. You can head home. I’ll take care of Lucky from here.”
