Chapter 307
Caden remained silent, swiftly exiting and getting into his car. Dorian, equally baffled, turned to Yolanda. โWhat did you do to Alicia?โ
Yolanda realized she could no longer conceal the truth. Glancing at Cadenโs hurried departure, she reluctantly clenched her fists. โI was angry at Alicia, so I made her stand outside in the cold. That was her punishment, her way of apologizing to me.โ
Dorianโs brow furrowed. โYolanda, itโs snowing and freezing outside.โ
โIt was just for a little while. She wouldnโt freeze to death!โ Yolandaโs eyes began to tear up. โDidnโt you bring her here to make amends? I was just letting off some steam, and now youโre upset?โ
Dorian replied firmly, โApologies should be verbal. How can you treat her life so lightly?โ
โSheโs not dead! Why are you scolding me?โ Yolanda cried, feeling wronged, and ran upstairs.
Dorian started to follow, but Regina grabbed his hand. โDid you see how upset Caden looked?โ
Dorian had noticed. The situation had escalated; this would not be easily resolved. Alicia was in a dire state when Caden rushed her to the hospital, suffering from severe frostbite and unconsciousness. The doctor admonished him as they examined her. โSheโs been feverish for hours and exposed to the cold! Young people really need to take better care of each other.โ
Caden remembered how frail she had seemed back at the apartment. He hadnโt realized it then. She had mustered her strength, despite being ill, to apologize to a rival, only to endure such harsh treatment. His heart ached.
After admitting her, Alicia was swiftly taken to a ward. Ointment was applied to treat her condition, and gradually, her fever subsided. She remained unconscious. Caden sat beside her, gently holding her hand. His phone buzzed with incoming messages. He saw messages from the veterinarian. Unlocking his phone, he was confronted with graphic images of injuries: swollen, bloodied wounds. Caden scowled as he scrolled. A particularly shocking image showed Cadeโs neck, nearly severedโan appalling sight. For a moment, Caden held his breath.
