Chapter 281:
She recognized him from online profilesโa young businessman in his thirties, remarkably sought after. Anticipating this moment, he stopped Alice.
"Miss Bennett, this way, please."
Alice was surprised. "Have you come to greet me personally?"
"For you, Mrs. Bennett, of course." His gaze was kind.
"I hold you in high regard, Mrs. Bennett. Could we speak privately?"
Alice paused, smiling. โIf itโs urgent, we can talk here. I have to finalize the payment first. Then Iโll take you to dinner. Not far away, Caden, having already paid his bill, watched them with a cold gaze. He stood unconcerned, one hand in his pocket, sleeves rolled to his elbows, revealing prominent veins. His expression was unreadable as he silently observed their interaction.
Maintaining her smile, Alice politely declined the manโs offer. His tone remained warm and welcoming.
โI have no ulterior motives in offering you the jewels, Miss Bennett. I simply wish to be friends. I understand you spent two hundred million dollars today, perhaps to get back at Mr. Wardโwhich really wasnโt necessary.โ
Alice replied, โThe gift is too generous; I must decline. Besides, our business interests donโt coincide, so I doubt weโll have many opportunities to work together.โ
The man presented his business card. "Iโm currently looking to invest in fine art. Might you offer me an opportunity, Miss Bennett?"
Alice looked down. She treated him as she would any other client. โIโm flattered. Unfortunately, Iโm not in a position to offer that opportunity.โ
Seeing an opening, the man politely extended his hand.
