Chapter 257:

Their conversation quickly turned to business. Dorian accepted the card politely, promising to visit when possible. Alicia nodded and stepped into the elevator. As he left, Dorian examined the card. Caden had hinted that revealing his relationship with Alicia wasn't opportune, suggesting a reluctance to assume responsibility. Dorian pondered the implications. Caden didn't want to be with Yolanda, yet he continued to support her. But what about Alicia? Orphaned, who would be there for her if Caden abandoned her?

Alice, having finished work, texted Gerry, suggesting dinner. Their friendship made this commonplace, but the choice of a lavish restaurant made Gerry cautious. He called her, asking if it would be just the two of them. Alice confirmed, offering to make other arrangements if he preferred. Gerry, however, was eager to show off his new car and offered to pick her up. Alice agreed, inquiring about any culinary preferences.

Then, a realization struck Gerry. Alicia likely had a question for him. Her failure to seek help from Caden hinted at a more complex situation. A sense of unease settled over him. He decided to bring Cliff, despite Cliff's current commitments.

Cliff, with his serious demeanor and imposing physique reminiscent of a retired soldier, presented a stark contrast to the carefree Gerry. Alice, slightly surprised by Cliff's presence, became more reserved, her questions unspoken. Finally, Gerry broke the silence, asking if Alicia had something to discuss.

A hint of shyness colored Alicia's response. She explained her desire to learn more about Caden's childhood, having grown up with him. Gerry, surprised, jokingly asked about Caden's past girlfriends. Alicia smiled, clarifying that she wanted to understand his life before he was seven.

Gerry paused, considering. Before Caden was seven? That was long ago, before Shelia's arrival with her son, and while Jerald successfully maintained the appearance of a good father and husband. That period represented a harmonious and loving family life, the happiest of Caden's childhood.
