Chapter 249
Caden looked at Alicia. In the past, she had always been shy and innocent when needing his help. Now, however, she radiated arrogance. Alicia continued eating. Feeling his own stomach rumble, Caden picked up a fork and ate with ease. Then Alicia put down her fork.
"How are things going with Joshua?" he asked.
Caden replied, in a disinterested tone, "I'm almost done."
"Will the Green family cause any trouble?" Alicia asked, her voice laced with concern.
"I've been researching them," Caden said, looking at her. "Lilliana's father is known for his volatile temper. Do you think he might interfere with your business?"
"You find time to investigate the Green family but not me?" she retorted. He was far superior to them in terms of power. Seeing his confidence, Alicia's brow furrowed slightly. "I know you're strong, but your business is international, and they're known local troublemakers. It's better to be cautious."
Caden played it down. "The Green family's main investment is show business; they're no match for real capitalists."
This reassured Alicia. If he wasn't worried, neither was she. She didn't want to be a burden.
After eating, Alicia bathed while the soup she'd prepared simmered in the kitchen. She poured a bowl, warmed it, and took it to her study. Caden disliked soup, considering it low in nutrition and high in purines—a risky food, in his opinion. However, Alicia's culinary skills were difficult to resist; her soups were tasty, healthy, and increasingly addictive.
Once she finished her soup, Caden pulled her onto his lap. He unfolded a document and looked at her with a playful smile.
"What is this?" Alicia asked.
She glanced at the document, her cheeks immediately flushing. She reached to cover it, but Caden grabbed her hand and pulled her closer, leaning in.
"You've taken documents from my company and been secretly studying intelligent robotics. What's your plan? Are you trying to help me?"
Realizing her intentions were discovered, Alicia admitted, "You've done so much for me; I wanted to give something back." Caden always appreciated her sincerity—a treasure in a world often driven by self-interest.
"Is it hard to learn?" Caden asked.
Alice nodded. It was incredibly difficult. She'd mentioned Lina's room for improvement, motivating her to help. Even the basics proved challenging, making her realize Yolanda's skill. However, Alicia remained determined.
"I'm young and unafraid of challenges. If I succeed and help you, it's a stroke of luck. If not, it's still a worthwhile experience."
Caden laughed. "Why waste time here when you could excel in areas you're already skilled in? You don't need to learn this. I don't need your help at work."
Alice felt a pang of disappointment. She replied vaguely, "We'll see. It's just something to keep me busy."
