Chapter 141
Caden quietly confirmed, "If you really need help, you could ask him to intervene."
Joshua felt a tightness in his chest. He was right; Alicia had already approached Caden. Understanding Caden's nature, Joshua knew he wouldn't help without expecting something in return. Hiding his irritation, Joshua sneered, "I don't need anyone's intervention, and it's too early for you to celebrate. The outcome is undecided."
"It was just money," he added, unwilling to acknowledge the loss. "The Green family will handle it." He hadn't run out of options. With a mocking smile, he asked, "Do you really think spending $300 million on a woman is justified?"
Caden replied coldly, "It's a major loss." Throwing away $300 million would certainly cause a stir. Alicia had broken her promise, failing to cook and spending the night at the Yates mansion with Joshua. His ingratitude stung.
Caden continued, "Don't worry. If your company is in trouble, I can help. Just give me the signal."
Joshua scoffed, "Dream on. You don't control Warrington, Caden."
Caden narrowed his eyes. "Oh, I forgot. You've traded your freedom for the Green family. Why would you need my help?"
Joshua, speechless, ended the call in frustration. Caden remained impassive, putting down his phone and continuing to eat, though Hank watched him. Despite the food, Caden seemed uninterested and on the verge of stopping.
Hank quickly intervened, "Mr. Ward, please have some more."
Caden was unenthusiastic. "It lacks flavor. I'm not hungry."
Hank argued, "If you lose weight, Mrs. Ward will worry incessantly."
Caden's expression soured. He reluctantly took another bite. Hank tried to cheer him up on the drive back to the company, mentioning topics that usually interested him. Caden remained silent.
Feeling bold, Hank leaned out the window and ventured, "Miss Bennett?"
Caden raised his eyebrows. Outside, only cars were visible. Alicia was nowhere in sight. Realizing Caden's disappointment, his expression grew cold. "Are you risking your job?"
Hank, with a knowing look, replied, "Mr. Ward, you're worried about Miss Bennett."
Finding Alicia seemed key to restoring Caden's normal demeanor. Hank understood his next task. Realizing humor was futile, he focused on driving. Unexpectedly, at a red light, he saw Alicia crossing the street with Monica, deep in conversation and laughing. Hank excitedly turned to Caden, "Mr. Ward, Miss Bennett!"
Caden, still skeptical, didn't even look. Undeterred, Hank shouted out the window, "Miss Bennett!"
Caden remained silent, his gaze barely lifting. He only glimpsed Alicia's back before she disappeared into the crowd. The street was too crowded for him to hear Hank's calls.
When the light turned green, Hank drove off. He sighed, "I shouldn't have lied to you earlier."
Caden considered Hank naive. His brow furrowed. "What does it matter if he sees me?"
Hank remained silent. After driving a short distance, Hank stopped the car. Leaning down, he said, "Mrs. Bennett and her companion just entered a pharmacy. Do you think she's hurt or ill?"
Caden recalled her earlier energy. "She's capable. I doubt a skirmish with ten people could slow her down."
"I still think it's worth checking. Wouldn't you agree, Mr. Ward?" Hank looked at Caden, waiting for an answer.
Caden remained stoic. "If you're so worried, check it yourself."
"That was my plan, Mr. Ward," Hank replied.
Caden remained silent. Hank then headed into the pharmacy.
Inside, Alicia was selecting medicine for her bruises. Hank "accidentally" bumped into her and asked nonchalantly, "Mrs. Bennett, are you hurt?"
Alicia replied politely, "I've twisted my ankle. It's nothing serious."
Hank persisted, "Does it hurt a lot?"
Monica, recognizing Hank from previous encounters, noticed his friendlier demeanor, contrasting with Caden's usual coldness. Impressed by his kindness, she spoke more freely. "Alice was lucky. It could have been worse."
Hank, feeling uncomfortable, probed, "What exactly happened?"
Monica replied in frustration, "That scoundrel Joshua locked her in a room, and she had to escape through the window."
Alicia quickly covered Monica's mouth, warning, "Not here, Monica."
Hank's eyes widened. He hadn't expected Joshua's involvement. Could it be related to Caden's anger? Monica remained silent, and Alicia turned to Hank. "Are you here to buy something?"
Hank, regaining his composure, said, "Yes, I need digestive pills for Mr. Ward. I overindulged this afternoon."
The mention of Caden's name visibly upset Alicia. "He asked for it," she commented abruptly.
Hank was speechless, unsure how to continue.
