Chapter 482
Frieda was shocked by her sudden, imposing manner.
After a moment of shock, she reacted, her cheeks flushed with anger. โHow dare you threaten me? In Acridon, no one has ever dared to speak like this to a duchess! Take them down! Iโll take responsibility if anything happens!โ
Athena didnโt expect Frieda to be immune to threats, so she had to slap the servant away with a palm. She quickly retreated, putting distance between herself and them.
She said to the guards beside her, โLetโs go.โ
The three turned around and left. Frieda chased after them relentlessly. โI must capture you and bring you to the manor! Letโs see where you can escape to!โ
She was furious and had murder in her heart.
She gestured to the guards beside her, โShoot them, but keep them alive.โ
The guards nocked their arrows and aimed at Athena.
Soon, the two guards beside her were hit by arrows. Athena swung her knife to defend herself, and a flash of inspiration came to her.
The Blumenfeld family wielded tremendous power in Aeridon. If anyone sought to uncover evidence of Curtisโs rebellion, their only option was to gain access to the Blumenfeld family.
Now was a good opportunity.
She threw the short knife on the ground and said to Frieda, โWhy must you be so merciless? I will go back with you, but you must let go of my two followers.โ
Frieda laughed and said, โIf you had been so sensible earlier, wouldnโt that have been better? Why make me spend so much effort?โ
She stepped forward and raised her eyebrows at Athena. She reached out and pinched Athenaโs chin, looking her up and down.
Her face was full of satisfaction. โYouโre so pretty, with such delicate skin. Whatโs your name?โ
โIโm Elijah Monson,โ Athena replied calmly.
Athena, dressed as a man, was graceful with an extraordinary bearing. It was a masculine charm that Frieda had never seen before. Most of the men in Aeridon had rough skin, and very few were as smooth-skinned as Athena.
If that werenโt the case, Frieda would have wanted to kill her earlier. She nodded slightly. โGood name.โ
Then, she said to Athenaโs two followers, โYou two can get out of here.โ
The followers looked at Athena with embarrassment. Athena said to them, โGo back and tell my father that the Duchess has invited me to the manor as a guest. Tell him not to worry, I will take care of myself.โ
The followers werenโt stupid and understood Athenaโs implication. If she wanted to escape, she would have sent a signal to them long ago. She was willingly being kidnapped by Frieda.
The followers exchanged a look and stood up. They bowed to Athena, helped each other up, and left.
Frieda smiled with satisfaction when she saw the followers leave sensibly. She patted the carriage behind her, โGet in the car. My palace is much more interesting than this street."
โSorry for the trouble.โ Athena bent down and got into the carriage, pretending to be obedient.
Seeing Athena so docile, Frieda giggled. โYou really are amusing. Anyone else would be on their knees begging for mercy by now. But youโre not afraid at all. Not only are you not afraid, but you are also so polite. You are really a fool.โ
Athena was silent and did not speak.
Frieda propped her chin, sizing her up with curiosity, โElijah, are you from Pidence City?โ
Athena replied, โYes, I run a pharmacy in Pidence City to support my family.โ
Frieda said, โBusiness is boring and hard. If you obey me, I can give you wealth and honor.โ
Frieda took out a money bag and stuffed it into Athenaโs hands, โIs this enough?โ
Athena opened the bag in surprise and saw it was full of silver coins and a few strings of copper coins. She took out a silver coin from it and said in surprise, โThis much?โ
โLook at you, so easily impressed. My fatherโฆโ Frieda stopped herself halfway, realizing she had spoken too freely. โAnyway, if you follow me, youโll never lack benefits.โ
Athena chuckled, seemingly tamed by her. โYes.โ She looked at the silver coin in her hand, secretly surprised.
She was surprised that Curtis was minting currency in secret. He was very bold. Well, the King was far away from his turf. That was why Curtis dared to do such things.
Frieda couldnโt help laughing when she saw Athena staring blankly at the silver coin. โSilly, what are you thinking?โ
Athena replied, โI was just thinkingโฆ I could never earn so much silver in my whole life.โ
Frieda laughed. โYou really are a fool. Please me, and not just a silver coin. I could even give you a whole residence.โ
Athena smiled at Frieda: โThank you for your kindness.โ
Frieda raised her chin with a proud look. โIf you had been so obedient earlier, wouldnโt it have been done?โ
Before long, the carriage stopped. A magnificent mansion appeared before them.
When Athena got out of the carriage with Frieda, she paid special attention to the layout of the mansion. The rockeries and flowing water surrounded the pavilions and towers, making it even better than the royal palace of Pidence City, revealing the style of a noble family everywhere. Athena sighed in her heart, wondering how much peopleโs wealth was piled up to build this.
โLetโs go, what are you dazing about?โ Frieda led Athena into the mansion. Seeing Athenaโs look of awe, she felt reassured.
Just then, a young man walked up to them and said, โFrieda.โ
โCharlton.โ Frieda looked back at the person and called out happily. Then, taking credit, she said to Charlton, โLook, I brought back a book boy. Isnโt he good-looking?โ
Charltonโs sharp eyes swept over Athena, full of suspicion. He lowered his voice and said, โFrieda, Aeridon has been uneasy lately. You shouldnโt bring strangers into the mansion. If Father finds out, he will blame you.โ
Seeing this, Athena hurriedly said, โI am a medicinal herb merchant. My lord, please show mercy and allow me to leave.โ
โCharlton.โ Frieda frowned at him. โWhy are you being so harsh? You scared Elijah. I finally found someone I like, and you just had to ruin it?โ
Charlton looked at Athenaโs frail appearance, and the vigilance in his eyes gradually dissipated. Turning back, he reassured Frieda, โIโm just concerned about you.โ He lowered his voice.
He took Frieda forward two steps. โFather recently received news that the court has sent someone, who will arrive in Aeridon City soon. Iโm afraid there will be a lot of trouble then.โ
Frieda gasped. โWhy would the court send someone over for no reason?โ
โI heard they want to set up a border market.โ Charltonโs voice was icy. โThis is to cut off the livelihood of my Blumenfeld family. Father will not allow it, and the people of my Blumenfeld family will not allow it.โ He added. โI will definitely make the people from the court suffer and send them back to Pidence City in disgrace.โ
Frieda happily gave a thumbs up. โCharlton, youโre awesome!โ
โAlright, be good.โ Charlton gently stroked her head.
His eyes were full of doting. โI heard that the person who came this time is not easy to deal with. The King actually sent the Prince Regent over.โ
His voice was full of worry. โThe court is determined to make trouble for my family.โ
