Listen to this chapter:

Trevor obediently opened his mouth, and the bitter medicinal juice slid into his throat, suppressing the burning sensation.

He looked around the room. Wooden tables and chairs, with a few bundles of dried flowers hanging on the wall. Wooden strips were piled in the corner, and the air was filled with the fragrance of plants and trees. After finishing the medicine, Trevor tried to move his body.

A sharp pain came, and he fell back onto the bed.

The woman laughed and said, โ€œYouโ€™re so badly injured, yet you still want to get up. Is there something important?โ€

Trevor observed the womanโ€™s attire and demeanor, noting that she bore no resemblance to a common village girl. She had fair skin, and her features were different from those of the women in the Grand Luminary Empire. Her eye sockets were deep, and her features were more three-dimensional. It was as ifโ€ฆ she was one of the Thirteen Tribes.

Alarm bells rang in Trevorโ€™s mind, and his voice turned cold as he asked, โ€œWho are you?โ€

The woman looked horrified and said, โ€œIโ€ฆ Iโ€™m just a normal hunterโ€™s daughter. Why are you being so fierce with me?โ€ As she spoke, her eyes filled with glistening tears.

Her appearance, on the verge of tears, made Trevorโ€™s throat tighten. โ€œThe hunters of Jadecrest Mount have made a living by hunting for generations.โ€ Trevor slowed his tone but didnโ€™t relax his vigilance. โ€œBut your hands donโ€™t have any calluses, and the style of this silver jewelry is definitely not local craftsmanship.โ€

A flustered look appeared in the womanโ€™s eyes, and tears fell. โ€œThis was left to me by my deceased mother. Iโ€™ve been weak since I was a child, and my family never let me do heavy work. I saved you, and youโ€™re still so wary of me. Kindness is truly not rewarded.โ€

After saying that, she glared at Trevor coldly and walked out.

Trevor lay on the bed, his thoughts a little empty.

Chapter 470

Could it be that he really wronged that girl?

In the following days, Trevor stayed in the forest to recover from his injuries. He also learned the girlโ€™s name: Abigail Pelosi. Under her care, Trevor gradually recovered.

โ€œIโ€™m going up the mountain to collect some flowers. The pasta is in the pot, so help yourself when youโ€™re hungry.โ€ Abigail carried the basket and poked her head in from the door, smiling at Trevor.

Trevor nodded a little embarrassedly. These days, he seemed to have gotten used to Abigailโ€™s care. Seeing that she was about to leave, he hurriedly added, โ€œThe mountain road is slippery, so be careful.โ€

โ€œGot it.โ€ Abigail chuckled and turned to leave.

Not long after she left, it started to drizzle. Trevor looked at the gloomy sky, picked up the umbrella placed at the door, and walked towards the mountain. Abigail wouldnโ€™t go far and should be easy for him to find.

At that moment, by the field on the hillside, Abigail was squatting in front of a stone crevice, picking purple flowers. The wooden hairpin in her hair was half loose, and a few strands of wet hair stuck to the side of her neck. The basket was already half full of mugwort and dandelion flowers. The rain wet the hem of her skirt, but it didnโ€™t affect her focus on identifying the flowers at all. With a deft pinch at the base of the leaves, she pulled cleanly, lifting the entire root system from the earth. She didnโ€™t notice that in the dense forest across the stream, several dark figures were creeping closer.

The faces of the three men in black were covered with black cloth, revealing only their cold, gleaming eyes. They all had scimitars at their waists, and they were the remnants Trevor was tracking down. They had been searching along the stream for several days, tracking Trevorโ€™s lost armor all the way to the foot of the mountain. They originally wanted to take a break here, but they ran into Abigail picking flowers alone on the way.

The womanโ€™s slender and graceful figure ignited a fire in their throats. They swallowed hard in unison, their eyes gleaming with lewdness.

โ€œBoss, this chick isnโ€™t bad looking.โ€ The black-clothed man on the left licked his chapped lips. His eyes wandered over Abigailโ€™s slender figure. โ€œWe have been in the mountains for days, and itโ€™s been a long time since weโ€™ve been around a woman.โ€

The black-clothed man, called the boss, spat and said with a grim look, โ€œLetโ€™s catch her first and ask for Trevorโ€™s whereabouts before having fun. That kid has a secret letter; we can only complete the task if we find him.โ€ He gestured, and the three of them approached Abigail from the left, center, and right, silently surrounding her.

A subtle sound reached Abigailโ€™s ears. Her hand, which was picking flowers, stopped abruptly. She listened carefully; the sound of footsteps mixed with the rain, heavy breathing filled with murderous intent. She slowly straightened up, pretending to arrange the basket, her peripheral vision already catching the black shadow approaching from the right.

โ€œYoung lady, itโ€™s not safe to be alone in the mountains.โ€ The leading man in black chuckled. He looked Abigail up and down, noticing her slender waist and frail appearance.

Abigail stood her ground, watching the black-clad figures closing in on her. Her gaze remained clear and utterly guileless. โ€œI am perfectly safe,โ€ she said. โ€œIt is you who are drenched and in a sorry state.โ€

Changing the subject, Abigailโ€™s tone shifted. โ€œIt seems to me that you donโ€™t look like good people. Could you be bandits on the run?โ€ Abigailโ€™s voice was clear and crisp, with a girlish sweetness. No one saw the slyness that flashed in her eyes.

These men in black failed to consider one simple thing: How could a little girl have the courage to live alone in the mountains?

โ€œOh, little lady, youโ€™re so considerate. Iโ€™m freezing all over. Why donโ€™t you warm me up?โ€ One of the black-clothed men rubbed his hands together and stepped forward with a smirk.

Abigailโ€™s eyes flashed with dangerous intent, but as she was about to act, she caught Trevor in the corner of her eye, heading in their direction. A faint smile touched her lips as she put on a terrified expression.

Lifting her skirt, she ran towards Trevor.

โ€œHelp, help!โ€

Seeing this, the three men not only didnโ€™t panic but instead laughed and chased after her. The prey was only interesting when it ran. There was no fun in something that was as still as a dead fish.

โ€œLittle beauty, donโ€™t run, wait for us, hahahaโ€ฆโ€

The girlโ€™s terrified voice, accompanied by the menโ€™s lewd laughter, reached Trevorโ€™s ears. His expression changed, and he hurriedly chased after the sound.

โ€œAbigail, where are you?โ€ Trevor shouted.

Abigail was surrounded by the three men after running only a few steps. She trembled like a frightened little rabbit. Tears finally appeared on her face. โ€œWhatโ€ฆ what do you want to do?โ€

โ€œWhat to do?โ€ The men approached with a grin. โ€œYouโ€™ll find out soon enough. First, tell us where Trevor is hiding, and maybe we will be gentle with you.โ€

Abigailโ€™s face turned pale with fright, and she shook her head repeatedly. โ€œI donโ€™t know the person youโ€™re talking about. Youโ€™ve got the wrong person.โ€

The leading man held down his companionโ€™s shoulder and scanned the things in Abigailโ€™s basket. He smiled sinisterly, โ€œArenโ€™t these used to treat external injuries? It seems that Trevor was indeed saved by you.

โ€œLittle girl, where are you hiding him?โ€ He pressed closer, his face menacing. โ€œAs long as you take us to him, Iโ€™ll grant you a quick death.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know who youโ€™re talking about. Iโ€™m just gathering flowers here.โ€

โ€œSince you refuse the easy way, youโ€™ll get the hard way!โ€ The man on the right lost his patience and reached out to grab Abigailโ€™s collar.
