Chapter 440

Michael killed the bandit leader with one strike. Seeing this, the rest of the bandits either fled or died. He helped Elettra sit down, and his brow furrowed as he looked at the long arrow in her back.

โ€œAre you crazy? Didnโ€™t I tell you not to come out? Why didnโ€™t you listen?โ€ He almost roared those words.

But Elettra smiled weakly.

She reached out and gently touched Michaelโ€™s tightly furrowed brow, saying, โ€œGeneral Osborne, are you worried about me?โ€

Michaelโ€™s body froze slightly, and he felt an indescribable feeling in his heart.

In his life, he had never dared to hope that someone would care about him again.

But Elettra was like a little sun, shining into his cold heart.

โ€œDonโ€™t talk, Iโ€™ll take you to the doctor.โ€ Michael held Elettra and shouted at the guards, โ€œFind a doctor, quickly.โ€

As he spoke, Elettraโ€™s face gradually turned pale.

She gently closed her eyes and stopped making noise.

Michael patted her cheeks and said anxiously, โ€œDonโ€™t sleep, wake up.โ€

โ€œI, Iโ€™m so sleepyโ€ฆโ€ Elettraโ€™s voice was as light as a feather, as if it would dissipate with a gust of wind.

The blood behind her flowed all over Michaelโ€™s hand.

He looked at her wound in fear, and his brow furrowed again.

The arrowhead was coated with poison, which could make the wound heal very slowly, causing people to bleed to death.

โ€œGeneral, I, I canโ€™t find a doctor!โ€ The soldier knelt in front of Michael, his voice sobbing. โ€œWe only brought food and grass, and didnโ€™t prepare a doctor!โ€

Michaelโ€™s pupils constricted violently.

He forgot that this trip was to escort provisions, and he didnโ€™t bring a military doctor with him.

He looked at Elettra, who was gradually weakening, and his eyes became firmer.

If he didnโ€™t remove the arrowhead for her, she would die.

Fortunately, he had been fighting wars for many years and knew some ways to treat wounds.

Michael pulled out the dagger from his waist and said in a low voice, โ€œHold her down.โ€

Elettra convulsed in pain, but clutched his sleeve tightly, her voice weak. โ€œDonโ€™t, donโ€™t send me back.โ€

โ€œShut up!โ€ Michaelโ€™s eyes were red, and the dagger was against the root of the arrow shaft. โ€œBear with it!โ€

The moment the blade cut off the arrow feathers, Elettra let out a shrill cry of pain, and cold sweat soaked her hair.

Michael didnโ€™t dare to delay and took out a small celadon bottle from his arms.

That was wound medicine that Athena had given him before leaving to prevent accidents, which was said to stop bleeding and promote muscle regeneration.

He pried open Elettraโ€™s teeth, poured all the medicine powder into her mouth, and watched her swallow with difficulty.

Then, he gave her water to drink.

She swallowed the water unconsciously, her brows furrowed tightly, and said, โ€œItโ€™s so, so bitter.โ€

โ€œGood medicine tastes bitter, but it can save your life.โ€

Michael carried Elettra into the tent, gently placed her on the bed, and checked her injuries.

The blood was still seeping out, staining most of the felt mat red.

Michael tore open his cloak, wanting to press on the wound, but found that the arrowhead was shot below the shoulder blade, so he had to unbutton his clothes to treat it.

His hand paused in mid-air, his gaze sweeping across Elettraโ€™s pale face.

The girlโ€™s hair was disheveled, and a few strands of black hair stuck to her sweaty neck, revealing her delicate collarbone like butterfly wings.

She was the daughter of the Grand Scholar, a pampered young lady in Pidence City. He didnโ€™t want to offend her.

Michael hesitated.

โ€œGeneral, the bleeding wonโ€™t stop!โ€ The guard outside the tent was stamping his feet anxiously. โ€œIf we delay any longer, Ms. Huber will die.โ€

Michael squeezed his eyes shut, and when he opened them again, only determination remained.

He tore open Elettraโ€™s collar. Around the black arrow shaft, the flesh was turned outwards, blood seeping out, making it look shocking.

โ€œForgive me,โ€ he said in a hoarse voice.

When his fingertip touched her warm skin, Michaelโ€™s hand trembled again.

He had been in the army for many years and was used to life and death, but he had never been so embarrassed.

He was afraid of hurting her if he used too much force, and he was afraid of delaying treatment if he moved too slowly.

The charcoal in the brazier crackled, reflecting on his red earlobes, making it more embarrassing than fighting a losing battle.

โ€œBear with it, bear with it,โ€ Michaelโ€™s voice was dry.

He rinsed the dagger with strong liquor and carefully probed the wound, searching for the arrowโ€™s landing point.

Elettra spasmed in pain, but bit her lip tightly, refusing to cry out again, tears streaming down the corners of her eyes.

But looking at Michaelโ€™s tight jawline, she suddenly felt that this pain didnโ€™t seem so unbearable.

Michael wasnโ€™t injured. That was all she wanted.

โ€œFound it,โ€ Michael said in a low voice, and his wrist suddenly exerted force.

When the bloody arrow was pulled out, Elettraโ€™s vision went dark, and she passed out completely.

Michael hurriedly pressed a clean cloth strip to the wound, sprinkled some wound medicine on it, and clumsily fastened her front.

He looked at her pale face, and his always deathly silent heart suddenly began to beat wildly.

Elettra looked delicate, but she was unexpectedly tough.

Others would have been too scared to come out after seeing a war.

Well, she dared to rush out.

Michael looked at Elettraโ€™s face, which was deadly pale.

His heart clenched.

He reached out to check Elettraโ€™s breath. He was relieved to feel it, although it was weak.

Michael was exhausted, but he didnโ€™t dare to close his eyes for a moment.

He leaned against the bedside, touching Elettraโ€™s forehead from time to time.

After repeating this for an unknown amount of time, a soldierโ€™s voice came from outside.

โ€œGeneral, itโ€™s dawn.โ€ The adjutant lifted the curtain and came in. Seeing Michael guarding Elettraโ€™s side, he hesitated and stopped. โ€œAre we still marching?โ€

Military rations were essential, as they were the life-saving food for the soldiers.

If it was delayed, something big would happen.

Michael thought for a moment and shouted outside, โ€œMatteo.โ€

A burly soldier walked in and said, โ€œGeneral.โ€

โ€œTake the supplies back to Ironfang Pass first.โ€ Michael ordered, โ€œMake sure the supplies are delivered safely and without any errors.โ€

Matteo Keller was stunned for a moment, โ€œGeneral, what about you?โ€

Michael tilted his head to look at the weak Elettra and said, โ€œSheโ€™s seriously injured and will need some time to recover. Iโ€™ll send her back to Pidence City after she recovers.โ€

Matteo looked surprised, but didnโ€™t dare to say anything. He cupped his fist and said, โ€œYes, sir.โ€

โ€œGo.โ€ Michael paused and said, โ€œPrepare a carriage for me, with three layers of felt.โ€

The team was divided into two groups, led by Matteo to continue towards Ironfang Pass.

The other small team followed Michael, escorting him and Elettra to the town ahead.

Michael sat in the carriage, looking at Elettraโ€™s pale face, his mood was complicated.

The carriage entered the town, and Michael carried Elettra into the pharmacy.

โ€œDoctor, doctor,โ€ He shouted loudly, โ€œCome quickly and save her.โ€

An old doctor came out from behind the counter, and seeing the unconscious Elettra, he couldnโ€™t help but ask, โ€œWhat is wrong with your wife?โ€

โ€˜Wife?โ€™ Michael frowned, feeling a bit guilty.

If he denied it, his behaviour earlier would be shameful.

The old doctor saw his hesitation and couldnโ€™t help but put on a stern face, โ€œWhat, this girl isnโ€™t your wife?โ€

Michaelโ€™s face flushed red, and he grunted from his nostrils, โ€œYes. She is.โ€

The old doctor breathed a sigh of relief, โ€œIf she is, just admit it frankly. Whatโ€™s there to be embarrassed about? Quickly carry her to the back room.โ€
