"I ate something on the plane. If you don't have any plans, just stay and sleep with me for a while," Joe said, his voice weary.

Skylar's expression changed. Lately, Joe had been increasingly blunt. "I was going to…"

Before she could finish, Joe's intense gaze fixed on hers. "It's not what you're thinking. I just want to sleep, purely sleep."

Skylar's face flushed. "I just woke up and I'm not sleepy yet. If you're worried about me being noisy, I was planning to go to the library to do some research, so I won't disturb you."

His choice of words was questionable. Who says "sleep with me" in the middle of the day?

Joe swiftly pulled her into his arms as she was about to leave. "Is it because it's not what you thought that you're upset? Since I have nothing else to do, I'll just… deal with you first, then sleep."

Joe's words were plain, his actions even more direct. Skylar was astonished by his energy after his flight. She questioned, "Aren't you afraid of overworking yourself?"

"Want to give it a try?" His deep voice rumbled in her ear.

Skylar felt Joe was becoming increasingly shameless.

Some time later, feeling exhausted and drowsy, Skylar realized Joe was not only brazen but also more uninhibited in bed. In a daze, Joe kissed her—a long, gentle kiss. Recently, he'd taken to kissing her frequently, especially after intimacy.

She woke at 2:00 p.m. to her phone ringing. Still half-asleep, she checked it, then nudged Joe. "It's your phone. Someone's calling you."

Joe reached for the phone, slowly opening his eyes. Seeing Skylar rise, he pulled her back. Skylar was about to speak when he answered the call.

"Do you know Jenny Scott?" the voice asked. "She was in a car accident and is at the hospital. I saw you were the first contact on her phone, so I called you."

Joe frowned. "A car accident?"

"Yes."

"Which hospital?"

"Apollo Hospital."

The phone was on speaker, and Skylar heard the conversation clearly. She was shocked. She suddenly recalled an incident from a few days ago, an incident almost forgotten until this call.

As Joe got dressed, he looked back at Skylar. "Let's go to the hospital together."

Still lost in thought, Skylar replied, "Okay."

It only struck her later that she had agreed to go to Apollo Hospital—where the Ruell family was staying.

After Joe finished dressing, he noticed Skylar's distracted demeanor and raised an eyebrow. "Are you still tired from earlier?"
