Chapter 795

“Are you sure you won’t let me in? This is the last time I’m coming to find you, Jenny. You’re on your own now,” Rowan said impatiently.

She caused as much trouble as ever. He must have had a seizure; why else would he visit her? Jenny was devastated. If not for Edwin, she would have opened the door. Edwin moved suddenly, distracting her. She whimpered.

Hearing the noise, Rowan frowned. “Jenny, what’s going on?”

Jenny wiped sweat from her brow. “Leave me alone! I want to rest in peace.”

Rowan chuckled. “Alright,” he said, turning to leave.

Downstairs, he looked up and saw a man staring down at him. Jenny remained on the tenth floor; he couldn’t see him clearly, but he felt he’d seen the man before. Rowan laughed mockingly. She hadn’t been alone. Perhaps the rumors were true; Jenny had been surrounded by men for years. He sometimes needed to see things with his own eyes to let them go. Rowan chuckled and walked away.

The next day, Skylar and Caleb arrived at the airport, passed through baggage claim, and waited to board. They carried precious antiques and needed to be careful. The plane, initially scheduled to depart in half an hour, was delayed by thirty minutes.

“I called Mr. Yates Senior; the plane’s delayed. We’ll arrive after dark,” Caleb told Skylar, settling down after returning from the restroom. He’d been looking forward to their trip—a getaway alone with Skylar—and the thought lifted his spirits.

Skylar nodded. “Alright, let’s take a break.”

Caleb looked around the crowded airport. Skylar read despite the noise; Caleb, unable to do so, pulled out his phone and chatted with friends.

Half an hour later, the gate opened. Minutes after settling into their seats, Caleb exclaimed, “Oh shit!”

Skylar raised an eyebrow. “What’s up?”

“You’re extremely close to Joe. Is he coming with us?” Caleb felt his expectations crumbling. He was happy to go with Skylar alone, but couldn’t cope with Joe’s presence.

Skylar followed Caleb’s gaze and met Joe’s eyes. He and Paul had just boarded. Surprise flickered in Joe’s eyes, but his haughty expression remained; he seemed to want to see Skylar least of all. Skylar’s heart sank.

Paul was surprised. “Mrs. Martin? Are you going to Zallory as well?”

“Yes. I have work there,” Skylar replied.

Paul internally lamented the coincidence. If anyone claimed Joe and Skylar weren't destined to be together, he'd rather sever his own head.

“When will you be back?” Joe asked, his cold tone making Paul’s heart jump. Skylar met Joe’s dark gaze.
