Chapter 773

โ€œNot yet, Skylar,โ€ Jenny said defiantly. โ€œDo you think Iโ€™m so easily manipulated? Are you happy now that Joe is distancing himself from me?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll tell you something,โ€ Jenny spat. โ€œYou wonโ€™t be laughing in the end. You two are bound to divorce sooner or later!โ€ If she couldnโ€™t have Joe, neither could Skylar.

Skylarโ€™s response was icy. โ€œWhether I laugh in the end remains to be seen. But Jenny, you wonโ€™t even get that chance. Delusions are a sickness; you should get that checked. And by the way, I donโ€™t like you.โ€

Skylar ended the call and put her phone away. She understood Jennyโ€™s youth and impulsiveness, but the constant drama was taxing her patience. Jenny had probably clashed with Joe earlier and was now lashing out. Skylar found Jenny pathetic.

A few minutes later, as Skylar went downstairs to clock out, her phone rang. It was Natalie, not Jenny.

โ€œSkye, guess where I am?โ€ Natalieโ€™s voice bubbled with excitement.

Skylar smiled. โ€œWhere?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m at your place! I came to see Ms. Yancey and brought tons of groceries. Youโ€™ll have a hot meal waiting when you get home. Hurry back!โ€

Skylar stopped. โ€œYouโ€™re really at my place?โ€

โ€œWhen have I ever lied? Hurry! Iโ€™m heading to the kitchen.โ€

Skylar was surprised. Theyโ€™d only exchanged a few texts earlier; Natalie had mentioned visiting Janine soon, but Skylar hadnโ€™t expected her so quickly.

The mouthwatering aroma of food greeted Skylar when she opened her door. Despite her exuberance and black-and-white worldview, Natalie was an excellent cook.

Janine commented, โ€œNatalieโ€™s cooking is incredible. I offered to help, but she insisted on doing everything herself. If she werenโ€™t married, Iโ€™d love to have her as a daughter-in-law.โ€

Janineโ€™s admiration was clear, though Skylar hadnโ€™t mentioned Natalieโ€™s divorce. Now wasnโ€™t the time to bring it up.

Skylar smiled. โ€œMy brothers have always been career-focused.โ€ Janine had been troubled by Steven and Annieโ€™s recent issues.

โ€œWell, a strong career focus isnโ€™t a bad thing,โ€ Janine mused, reflecting on Stevenโ€™s past tumultuous relationships. She believed love couldnโ€™t be rushed; when the time was right, everything would fall into place.

Skylar entered the kitchen, where Natalie was still cooking. Hearing Skylar, Natalie looked up. โ€œYouโ€™re back already? No traffic?โ€

โ€œThe roads were clear. Is there more cooking to be done?โ€ Skylar asked.

โ€œJust the last dish. You can wait in the living room,โ€ Natalie replied.

โ€œOkay,โ€ Skylar said.

After dinner, an hour later, Skylar and Natalie strolled leisurely around the complex, a small, cozy area filled with elderly residents.

โ€œIf somethingโ€™s bothering you, talk to me,โ€ Natalie said, her concern evident. Sheโ€™d recently learned unsettling newsโ€”Joe and Vera were high school classmates, and Vera had been Joeโ€™s past love. The paparazzi photos seemed orchestrated by Joe himself. Natalie believed it must be true; there had been no recent news about Skylar and Joe despite their marriage.
