Chapter 602
The intermittent sound of Natalieโs crying drifted from the phone. Her restrained sobs tugged at Skylarโs heart.
โNath?โ Skylar waited patiently for Natalie to compose herself.
After a while, Natalie finally spoke. โSkye, Iโm going to resign.โ
Skylar knew how much Natalie loved her job. She asked, โWhy this sudden decision?โ
โJeremy is a bastard! He went after Mr. Powell.โ
โHave you talked to Jeremy?โ Skylar asked, furrowing her brows.
Natalieโs tone remained calm. โI just left his office. I tried to reason with him, but he wouldnโt listen. Donโt worry about me. Iโm going to find Mr. Powell now.โ
โTake care of yourself.โ
โOkay.โ
Natalie sat by the roadside. Getting up, she felt a bit dizzy, likely from crying. She hailed a cab, and while en route, Kate called.
โMom?โ
Since learning of Jeremyโs affair, Natalie hadnโt contacted her parents. Perhaps it was a subconscious avoidance. She wanted to escape, unsure how to explain things.
โI fought with your father today, so Iโm coming to stay at your place for a few days. I can look after you, too. Whatโs been going on? Why havenโt you visited?โ Kate rushed out.

Natalie bit her lip. โMom, itโs not convenient right now. Dad will calm down, and I can manage. Iโve been very busy with business trips. Iโll visit once things settle down.โ
โIโm at your place. No matter how busy you are, you need to rest in Jipsburg City at night! Iโve cooked dinner, and Iโm waiting. I called Jeremy, and he agreed,โ Kate said, cutting Natalie off before hanging up.
Natalie felt anxious and frustrated. She tried calling Kate back, but she didnโt answer.
Staring at the familiar streets, Natalie felt profoundly lost.
During Skylarโs lunch break, she received a message from Paul.
โMrs. Martin, Mr. Martin is very busy today, so he asked me to book a restaurant. Iโm sending you the address.โ
The message included a location pin.
Looking at the location, Skylar felt dazed. Then she realized Joe, when with her, always accommodated her preferences. Details sheโd overlooked now seemed significant.
It struck her that Joe wasnโt as indifferent as sheโd thought. Lately, they'd been getting along well at home, deliberately avoiding certain topics.
As she pondered this, Edgar called. โMrs. Martin, Mrs. Martinโฆ Senior asked me to inform you not to come to Pearlhall Residence today. She suggests you and Mr. Martin celebrate his birthday privately.โ
In previous years, Joeโs birthday had been celebrated with Gloria at Pearlhall Residence. Gloria wanted a more intimate celebration this year.
โHis birthday?โ Skylar responded reflexively, then remembered. Sheโd seen his birthdate on their marriage certificate.
โYes, today is Mr. Martinโs birthday,โ Edgar said, perhaps worried about their relationship's progress.
