Chapter 375
Skylar's workplace was far from Steven's, so he wouldn't know Key and his associates had brought the media to the company. If that were the case
Skylar glanced at the entrance. Peter and Maisy weren't there. Did they look for Steven?
"It's a minor matter. I can handle it," Steven said, withholding information for fear of upsetting Skylar. She vaguely heard a familiar sound during their callโhe seemed to be on a train. He should be at work by now; he lives nearby and a ten-minute walk would suffice. There was no reason to take a train.
Janine's face suddenly flashed in Skylar's mind. "Steven, I'm at work. Kenny and others brought reporters. My colleagues are handling it. Did Peter and Maisy do the same to Mom?"
Steven paused before saying, "Yes. Mom didn't answer the door."
"So they're acting like hyenas. I'm going home to deal with them. Don't meet them. My friend said they want to use the media to force you into agreeing to their demands." Some netizens would be manipulated into criticizing Skylar, forcing her compliance. They were despicable!
"Steven, go to work. Don't show your face. I'll be right there. Don't worry; I'll handle these pests," Skylar decided, preventing him from arguing. She couldn't avoid this; she had to confront them directly. She didn't want Steven or her family dragged into this. They had everything to lose and nothing to gain from public exposure, unlike her.
She immediately drove home. Thankfully, traffic was light. Within 30 minutes, she arrived. Many people were congregating around her apartment complex. Mostly elderly retirees with nothing better to do. While the media might struggle to gather crowds elsewhere, this wasn't the case here.
Skylar smirked and climbed the stairs, which were also crowded. Some neighbors recognized her.
"Skylar, you're home? The media's asking for you," an elderly lady said curiously.
Others asked, "I heard your birth mother had an accident, and you didn't visit. We don't believe you're that kind of person. You didn't do that, did you? She's your birth mother; it's rude not to see her after an accident. I heard she lost her legs. All she wants is to see you. What kind of mother wouldn't want to see her daughter?"
Skylar ignored them. She only cared about Janine's well-being.
On the seventh floor, she found the broadcast crew, Peter, and Maisy. Maisy was trying to persuade Janine to open the door. "Mom, just open the door. Peter and I just want to settle matters. We want to clear up the misunderstandings between you and Skylar. Mom's condition is awful; she really wants to see Skylar."
"Ms. Yancey, hiding won't solve matters. Please open the door," a reporter advised.
The camera was rolling, recording the Williams family's predicament. This would certainly attract viewers.
