As the camera panned, it occasionally captured the onlookers. Charles quickly averted his gaze from Lizzie. He clearly didn't want to acknowledge her. He would keep a closer eye on Skylar to protect her from unsavory characters.

Lizzie texted Skylar on Instagram. Minutes later, Skylar replied, “Charles is my brother. I’m sorry. He’s still unaware of the situation.”

Lizzie smiled. Skylar was charming and sincere—a rare combination. Her profession as an antique restorer made her even more unique. Lizzie admired Skylar's dedication, but unfortunately, she was married to Steven.

That evening, after dinner, Skylar drove home to her and Joe's new apartment. The roads were dark and congested. She encountered several traffic jams and sent Joe a voice message: “I’m stuck in traffic. I should be home about half an hour later. Navigation shows heavy congestion, probably an accident.”

Joe replied, “Stay safe. If it gets too bad, just park and take the subway.”

Skylar smiled; that was a good idea. She soon bypassed the congestion, but then spotted a car accident—fortunately, minor and already under police control.

Twenty minutes later, she reached the underground parking lot. As she parked, an unfamiliar number called. Stepping out of the car, she answered.

“Do you know who I am?” a man’s voice asked.

The voice was unfamiliar, yet vaguely familiar. Most men's voices sounded alike, she thought. She replied, “You have the wrong number.”

“I didn’t. Aren’t you feeling quite sad? Joe has left you, shattering your dreams of luxury. You’re watching him get engaged to someone else. Any woman would find that hard to accept,” the man said.

Skylar stopped. “Who are you?”

He knew about her relationship with Joe and her number; he must be someone she’d met before.

“Still can’t remember? Calling you now means you're important to me,” the man teased.

Skylar’s voice turned icy. “Tell me who you are, or I’ll hang up.”

“Why rush? A beautiful woman shouldn’t be impatient. Or are you heartbroken and don’t want to talk?”

Before he finished, Skylar hung up. Immediately, another call arrived from the same number.

“Tell me who you are, or I’ll block you,” Skylar said coldly.

“A beautiful woman certainly has a temper. I’m Claudio Martin. We met at the hospital. You weren’t friendly, but I’m generous. Now that Joe’s divorced, I can offer you a chance. How about being with me?” Claudio proposed.
