Molly remained silent for a moment. “That’s impossible. Skylar doesn’t have that kind of ability.” Skylar might have noticed something amiss with the ring, but there was no trace of negative energy. With Skylar’s expertise, she wouldn't have missed any flaws.

Hearing Molly’s confident tone, Vera felt slightly relieved, though a nagging unease persisted. “The statue I left in the bedroom… It won’t cause any problems for my family, will it?” she asked, worry coloring her voice. The recent string of accidents involving the Ruell family weighed heavily on her mind. She couldn't bear another mishap. If things went wrong again, she couldn't face her family, nor could she summon the courage to ask Skylar for help again.

Molly, losing patience, responded, “No, there won’t be any danger. Don’t worry. The statue will help you achieve your desires, but be patient. Follow my advice—spend more time with Joe. It only works if you're frequently together.”

Vera felt convinced. “Alright.”

After hanging up, she returned Denton’s call. He had been trying to reach her repeatedly. “Grandpa.”

“What’s going on between you and Joe? You said everything was going well, that you’d be engaged soon. Now, he’s announced his engagement to someone else? Were you lying?” Denton’s voice trembled with anger. Several friends had called, and he felt utterly humiliated by Vera’s actions.

Tears welled in Vera’s eyes. Thankfully, she was in her car. She felt deeply wronged. “Grandpa, there’s a misunderstanding. He got engaged out of spite. I can’t explain everything now, but what I told you was true. I just need Joe to realize his mistake. His engagement truly hurt me.”

Denton felt a measure of relief. “Alright, I believe you. Ignore the gossip. Joe needs to apologize. What he did was unacceptable.”

Vera agreed. “You’re right, Grandpa.”

After ending the call, she slumped back, exhausted and drained. A sudden thought struck her, and she immediately dialed Joe’s number. He didn’t answer. Repeated calls went unanswered. Was he deliberately ignoring her?

Vera bit her lip in frustration, then thought of Skylar. She tried calling, but Skylar didn’t answer either. The image of Joe, beaming as he announced his engagement to Lizzie, flashed in her mind. He seemed genuinely happy with Lizzie. Perhaps Skylar had seen the news and was as panicked as she was.
