Caleb asked, "Skylar, where are you now?"

Skylar glanced at the roadside. "On Bard Lane. What's up?"

"It's important! Are you heading back to Galaxy Villa? Call me once you get there safely," Caleb insisted.

Skylar agreed, knowing she was only a few intersections from Galaxy Villa. After bringing her suitcase inside, she called Caleb back. "What's going on?"

"First, promise me you'll keep a level head. Don't let what's about to happen upset you," Caleb said, his concern evident.

Skylar reassured him, "I promise. What's going on?"

"I'm sending you a video."

After hanging up, Caleb quickly sent the video. The screen showed a graceful woman in a white gown, arm-in-arm with Joe. Both radiated happiness as they announced their engagement. Joe had clearly invested considerable effort; the event was crowded with reporters, the flash of cameras incessant. The woman was not Vera.

Skylar's face paled as she watched.

Just then, Caleb called again. "A friend got this firsthand. Everyone in Jipsburg will know soon. Skylar, are you okay? Joe's a jerk! Don't let this upset you. You two aren't even divorced yet! What's he doing, getting engaged to someone else?"

Caleb's fury was palpable. He couldn't believe Joe's casual disregard for the woman he admired, and the blatant disrespect of his still-ongoing marriage to Skylar was infuriating.

Skylar, feeling a whirlwind of emotions, replied in a somewhat scattered manner, "I'm fine, don't worry. If Mr. Gardner Senior hears about this, please tell him not to worry about me. I can handle it."

"Are you really okay?" Caleb sounded unconvinced.

Skylar nodded. "I'm fine."

After hanging up, she set down her phone and pushed her suitcase aside. After washing her face, she watched the video again. Yesterday, Joe had rushed back to Jipsburg just to get engaged. She'd thought he was busy with work, but now she realized her mistake. She wondered if he wasn't afraid of Gloria discovering such a public announcement. Suddenly, everything clicked: Joe's recent coldness toward Vera was because she was never the one he truly cared for.

The news would undoubtedly shock many. She certainly felt shaken. Checking the time, she realized she'd only eaten a quick sandwich on the train, and hunger gnawed. It was time for a proper meal. She rummaged through the fridge, selecting some vegetables and quickly sautéing them into a simple dish.

Just as she finished, Steven and Charles called, one after the other. "I saw the news too. You and Joe…"

Skylar explained to them, as she had to others, that she and Joe had finalized their divorce in the last couple of days, so his engagement was inconsequential to her.

Steven and Charles were somewhat reassured by her clear attitude and good spirits. A moment later, Janine called.

"Skye, I heard from Steven. Why didn't you tell me? If you had, I wouldn't have let you leave today. I could have kept you company at home. Don't be upset. You still have me and your brothers."

Skylar comforted Janine, eventually adding, "I'll be home tomorrow."

"Okay," Janine replied.

Finally, the phone fell silent. After a brief pause, she opened a live-streaming app.
