Chapter 83
Evelyn felt her cheeks burning. She felt as if she had taken a blow to her chest. Lucas’s firm decision made Evelyn feel insignificant compared to Tiffany. He didn’t care if Evelyn had intentionally worn the same dress as Tiffany. In his heart, Tiffany came first. He only cared about protecting Tiffany’s image. He didn’t care if Evelyn felt awkward or embarrassed.
“Mr. Grant, it’s just a dress. There’s no need for that,” Sebastian said, looking unhappy. He took off his jacket and draped it on Evelyn’s shoulder. “How about this? Are you happy now?”
It was only then Evelyn looked away and silently calmed her breathing. Lucas continued looking at Evelyn coldly. Sebastian’s jacket covered half the dress, and Evelyn didn’t reject his gentlemanly action.
“It’s fine. This doesn’t affect me,” Tiffany said before turning gracefully to Lucas. “Let’s go to our seats, Lucas.” She took the high road and let the matter slide.
Lucas calmly pulled his gaze away and replied, “Alright.” Both of them left together.
Sebastian couldn’t help but frown, patting Evelyn on her back to console her. Evelyn clenched her fists slowly before waving her hand. “I’m fine.”
Of course, she would never change her dress. She didn’t think she needed to compromise for Tiffany’s sake.
Before Mason left, he glanced at Evelyn and said, “It’s pointless to wear the same dress. The person Lucas likes is still Tiffany.” Clothes and jobs didn’t matter. What mattered was the person. Mason thought it was a pity that Evelyn didn’t understand that. He shrugged and left.
“Tiffany sure is popular among them,” Sebastian sneered. “She has completely confused them about what’s right and wrong.”
Evelyn shook her head calmly. “It’s not that they can’t tell right from wrong. They are just biased toward her.” The way Evelyn was married to Lucas was rather shameful, so they had always misunderstood her and treated her with prejudice. In the past, she wanted to explain herself and clear the air. But at that moment, she no longer cared, nor did she need to do that anymore.
Sebastian could not help but sigh. He was a bystander, and he couldn’t even stand it. He could only imagine how Evelyn must be feeling. Yet, Evelyn was emotionless. She even had the mood to get a drink from the bar to replenish her energy.
It was a little quieter at the bar. As soon as she walked over, she saw Jessica there, fixing her makeup. Blake was present, so it made sense that Jessica was there, too.
Initially, Evelyn planned to just grab a glass of sparkling water and leave. However, Jessica saw her and asked, “Evelyn? Why are you here?”
Evelyn had no choice but to stop in her tracks. “I came with my boss.”
Jessica got up and walked over. “Mr. Hill, right? Blake was just talking about going to chat with him.” Evelyn looked indifferent and didn’t reply.
“I heard you used to be very close with Blake when you guys were younger,” Jessica tilted her head and smiled, adding, “Lily said Blake used to be extra fond of you when you guys were children. He would always let you have all the treats and toys first. Lily also said she thought both of you would end up together.”
Evelyn was taken aback for a moment, and she met Jessica’s smiling gaze. “You should ask Blake,” Evelyn replied calmly, not feeling uneasy at all.
It was only then Jessica chuckled and said, “I’m just joking. I’m going to find Blake, so I’ll see you later.” She grabbed her wine glass and did a double take on Evelyn’s necklace. Then, she exclaimed, “How did you get this necklace? Blake bought over four million dollars worth of jewelry with me yesterday, and the store gave us a diamond necklace for free. Why did he give it to you?”
Evelyn was a little stunned. It was a free gift? Jessica finally realized what she had said, so she added embarrassingly, “Maybe I’m mistaken. Don’t misunderstand me.”
It was only then that Jessica left. Evelyn stood there for a while and pulled the necklace off her neck. Then, she threw it in an empty glass.
The event officially started. The people seated in the front were all familiar with each other. Evelyn was sitting on the left of Sebastian. Lucas, Tiffany, and the others were sitting to Sebastian’s right with an aisle separating them.
Soon, the host started the introduction on the stage. Evelyn noticed that the people around her were very excited. After a while, Sebastian patted her shoulder and said, “He’s here.”
