Chapter 26

Evelyn looked back and met Lucas’s dark gaze; he was holding her medical report. Her heart clenched as she lost her composure and snatched it back from him.

Looking at her pale face, he asked, “Why are you so nervous?”

He saw the medical report fall out of her pocket as he approached her, so he picked it up but hadn’t had the chance to look at it yet.

“You’re overthinking things, Mr. Grant,” Evelyn relaxed, returning to her usual calm and composed demeanor.

Looking at her thoughtfully, Lucas said, “Evelyn, you seem to love calling me Mr. Grant recently.”

She did not explain that it was because Tillany had brought it up once. Not to mention, they were about to… Having the report back in her purse, she asked, “Is something the matter?” A divorce was soon, so it was only appropriate for her to address him as Mr. Grant.

“Are you sick or something?” Lucas didn’t dwell on the issue as his cold gaze swept over her, showing concern for her. However, he knew that he didn’t care at all. Especially after she witnessed how nervous he was over Tillany’s cold. She knew he was merely being polite by asking about her health. He was just well-brought-up. Despite his cold behavior, he had basic manners and knew how to be polite.

In the past, she would have been touched by his empty concerns.

“It’s nothing. I also came here to visit my uncle,” she replied impassively, out of courtesy.

“Tillany is sick,” Lucas mentioned suddenly.

Evelyn looked at him, waiting for him to continue.

He remained silent, and the way he discussed his lover’s condition so openly with his own wife was almost laughable.

“That day, she had waited for more than an hour when she went to meet Sebastian at the Flying Seal Group. It resulted in her catching a cold,” Lucas elaborated, taking out a cigarette. Just as he was about to light it, he decided to put it back.

“The straightforward Mr. Grant,” Evelyn met his eyes. Did he think Tillany had… Tillany had caught a cold because she had said something to Sebastian?

Looking at her with a cold expression, he questioned, “Why were you at the Flying Seal Group that day?”

Sure enough, she had guessed correctly. He had come after her, not out of concern for her showing up at the hospital, but to get an explanation about what had happened that day. “Mr. Grant, you and I are living in different worlds now. After resigning from Bluezen, it’s only natural for me to find another job to survive. Am I right?” Evelyn asked steadily. Lucas scrutinized her for a moment. “What kind of work can you possibly do in the Flying Seal Group?”

He let out a short laugh, but his smile didn’t reach his eyes.

Evelyn understood what he was trying to imply. In his eyes, she was nowhere near as capable as Tillany, and he believed that her decision to leave Bluezen was foolish.

“There’s no need for you to worry about that.” Evelyn had no intention of discussing her current affairs with him. After all, they were about to become strangers, so there was no need for that. Not to mention, Lucas had no intention of explaining why the food she had prepared for Maria had ended up with Tillany. It was obvious he had recognized her cooking, yet he didn’t do anything to prevent it from happening. It was as if she had been reduced to Tillany’s caretaker. Was it because he didn’t care about such trivial matters? It was because he had never respected her in the first place.

Although Evelyn wasn’t being rude, he could still sense her coldness toward him. In fact, he had noted that she had been acting differently since Tillany’s birthday. He figured there was a limit to everything. If he left her alone long enough, she would eventually come to terms with her situation.

Speaking softly, he suggested, “Since you’ve joined the Flying Seal Group, whether you’re an assistant or something else, you might want to advise Sebastian to be more flexible. People skills are necessary for a leader.”

It seemed like Lucas was standing up for Tillany. He probably felt bad that she hadn’t been given the respect she deserved. Although it seemed like he was criticizing Sebastian for being inconsiderate, he was actually blaming Evelyn for targeting Tillany and trying to put her in her place.

Evelyn didn’t like going over pointless things, but she also didn’t like being accused of something she hadn’t done. So, she looked at Lucas and asked, “Mr. Grant, has it ever crossed your mind that Mr. Hill chose not to meet her simply because she wasn’t qualified?” No matter how talented Tillany was, she had no real achievements yet. Did she really think she could schedule a meeting with Sebastian whenever she wanted?

Lucas’s brows furrowed slightly, at which he said impassively, “The fact that I’m supporting her makes her qualified enough.”

He subconsciously softened slightly as he answered, “Okay.” He could have the time to meet Marla and clear things up.

She had disposed of their packaging and put them into clear bottles. After disposing of the packaging, she returned to the Flying Seal Group, visiting the hospital for a check-up. Istine thought she had gone to visit Leonard, her son. New, mutable he had seemed. She closed her eyes and shook her head. “He’s the same as always.” He had told Evelyn about his condition.

I returned home to collect her thoughts. Combat drones were a major project for the advancement of technology, and Flying Seal Group would be the primary manufacturers for the next two years. She had a complete plan in mind, but she still needed to discuss it with Sebastian and the others. It was nearly 10 pm.
