Chapter 56: Nice to Meet You

Neon lights strobed and flashed in the bar, creating a lively atmosphere. After Hilda and the other girls entered, Jared saw them led to the back. He followed, but a man stopped him. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, sir,โ€ the man said, โ€œbut you canโ€™t go through here. Backstage is for staff only.โ€

Jared looked toward where Hilda had gone, but she had disappeared. He walked to a corner table, eager to discover what she was doing.

Soon, Hilda and the other girls emerged, wearing only sexy lingerie. They danced toward the center stage, immediately captivating the crowd as spotlights illuminated them. Hilda and the others began an erotic dance. Hilda's movements lacked the fluidity of the others, but she persevered, forcing a smile. Her inexperience was obvious; the audience's gazes shifted to her, some even throwing money.

Jared was shocked. He never imagined the shy, well-behaved Hilda Wallace would become an exotic dancer. Hilda repeatedly bent to pick up the banknotes, stuffing them into her bra, offering the men a clear view.

Witnessing this, Jared approached the stage, pulled out several thousand dollars, and threw the cash onto the stage.

โ€œThank you, sir!โ€ Hilda exclaimed, seeing the money. But when their eyes met, she froze for several seconds. Quickly averting her gaze, she pretended not to see him and continued picking up money before resuming her dance, her smile gone.

Jared's generosity attracted attention, but the moment the partygoers saw his simple clothes, admiration turned to scorn. A man tapped Jared's shoulder. โ€œHey, man,โ€ he said, โ€œlooks like you just threw away your life savings, huh? Get lost before you spend your next paycheck the same way.โ€

Jared ignored him, his gaze fixed on Hilda. "Three years," he thought. "How did she change so much?"

Hilda danced away from Jared, while the other girls, noticing his generosity, swarmed him.

โ€œHello, handsome,โ€ one said, reaching to touch his face. The dancers easily recognized wealthy but unassuming men, assuming Jared was one of them.

Jared tilted his head, avoiding the dancer, his eyes still on Hilda.

โ€œWhatโ€™s your name, beautiful?โ€ a man beside Jared asked with a leering smile, then pulled the dancer off the stage.
