Chapter 265: Persistent Feeling
โMr. Chance, Iโll look into this immediately,โ Glen said, glaring at Devin and Benedict. โEffective today, youโre both dismissed. A full investigation will be launched. If corruption is discovered, you will face severe punishment!โ
Thud!
Devin and Benedict collapsed, utterly shocked. All our dirty deeds will be exposed, they thought. We canโt escape punishment.
โMr. Lowe, Mr. Chance, perhaps we should continue this elsewhere,โ Tommy suggested. Heโd already instructed his men to prepare another room.
โVery well,โ Glen agreed, turning to his companions. โYou may return home. Iโll be back shortly.โ
After they left, Glen and Jared departed. Before leaving himself, Tommy cast a scornful glance at Devin, Benedict, and their family.
As the Chances watched Jared go, regret washed over them. This wouldn't have happened if we hadn't disrespected Jared. But it was too late.
Jared didnโt linger. He exchanged a few words with Glen, who thanked him profusely and pleaded for mercy toward his son, Frederick.

Tears welled in Jaredโs eyes. He hugged Hannah. โMom, I donโt need it. Benedict already paid.โ
Their concern deeply touched him. Heโd planned to ask about his adoption, but seeing their worry, he changed his mind. Who cares if Iโm adopted? Theyโre my parents.
โBenedict paid? Has he lost his mind?โ Hannah exclaimed incredulously.
โLetโs leave. This place feels wrong,โ Gary urged, sensing unease.
Jared went home. Hannah and Gary returned the money theyโd borrowed.
Back in his room, Jared attempted to cultivate, but Benedictโs voice echoed in his mind.
โDamn it!โ Jared snarled, shaking his head violently, but the voice persisted. The only way to stop this is to find out the truth!
Yet, he hesitated. Hannah and Gary had showered him with love. Gary, though stern, had never harmed him. Heโd never questioned if they were his real parents. Now, his thoughts were a chaotic mess.
His turmoil kept him restless all day. Only Hannahโs call for dinner roused him. Seeing his pale face, she asked, โJared, are you feeling alright?โ
