Chapter 230: A Quick Visit

Despite their confusion over Sandy's actions, they attributed them to her desire to humiliate Jared for abandoning a girlfriend as virtuous as herself. As the night progressed, several classmates had clearly consumed excessive amounts of wine. Leroy was among them; he approached Sandy inebriated, raising his glass. "Sandy, you consider us old friends, right?" he drawled. "I'm working with the Scott family now. Since you're their future daughter-in-law, a good word from you would be greatly appreciated. More projects my way, you see? Thanks in advance!" He drained his glass.

His audacity emboldened other classmates to approach Sandy with requests, ranging from job prospects to housing issues. Most had attended the reunion solely to curry favor with Sandy.

Sandy found herself in an awkward predicament. She couldn't reveal her broken relationship with Leyton; her classmates would treat her with disdain instead of respect if they learned of it. She offered a noncommittal, "I'll see what I can do."

Her dilemma worsened when Juliette announced, "Sandy! Why not invite Mr. Scott to our reunion? Some of us have never met him!"

Her suggestion sparked enthusiastic agreement. Exclamations of "I've never seen Mr. Scott! He must be incredibly handsome!" and "Imagine the bragging rights of dining with Mr. Scott!" filled the air. Leroy boisterously added, "Come on, Sandy, ask him! Dinner's on me! More food and a good wine!"

"He's busy!" Sandy replied hastily, forcing a strained smile.

Juliette persisted, whining, "Sandy, Mr. Scott adores you. He can't refuse you. Plus, I'm sure he'll come if he knows Jared's here!" Her true motive was avoiding the cost of the expensive dinner Leroy had generously offered if Leyton attended.

Sandy felt intense animosity toward Juliette. "He really is busy!" she gritted out. "I'm not calling him, so drop it!"

Juliette's tone sharpened. "Sandy, do you think so little of your classmates? Mr. Scott can surely spare a few minutes to greet us!"

Sandy remained silent. I'm not sure Leyton would even answer; if he does, he'll scold me instead of listening!

Just as Sandy felt trapped, Jared calmly stated, "Call Leyton and ask him to come." He didn't even look at her.

Everyone stared at Jared in shock. Leroy was about to retort when Sandy reluctantly called.

The call connected as she reached a secluded corner.

"Didn't I tell you never to call again? I'll break your legs!" Leyton roared.

He lived in fear of Jared's retaliation since his return. Yoel fared no better, desperately trying to repair the Scott family's relationship with Jaredโ€”a process that could take years. The Scott family was entirely at Jared's mercy; even powerful figures like Tommy Lewis and Walter Grange paid their respects to him. Jared could ruin the Scott family with a single word.

Sandy stammered, "Leyton, I-I'm at a student reunion. I-I hope you can come for a quick visit."

"Student reunion? Please! Iโ€”"

Sandy interrupted, "Jared's here! He wants you to come."
