Chapter 22: Humiliation
Hearing this, the security guards panicked, drawing their batons. If the other residents discovered an ex-convict was nearby, the guards would be in serious trouble.
"Jared, just leave," Warrick sneered. "Bring your blind mother and sanitation worker father. Do you want the guards to get involved?"
"What did you say?" Jared asked, clenching his fists.
"What? Going to hit me?" Warrick taunted, laughing hysterically as he approached Jared. "You might have learned a few moves in jail, but you're in the wrong place. I'll send you back if you touch me." He sneered, shoving Jared.
Frightened, Hannah nudged Jared's elbow. "Jared, let's go," she pleaded. She feared he'd get into trouble again. His criminal record meant the authorities wouldn't be lenient if a disturbance occurred. She couldn't bear the thought of him returning to jail.
Gary, equally worried, stared at Jared. "Get our things. We're leaving. This is humiliating," he said, starting to pack their luggage. He couldn't endure the humiliation any longer.
"Hahaha. Get lost!" Warrick shouted, pointing at Jared. "And if I see you again, I'll beat you up!"
"Right, let's go. It's embarrassing to be seen with these people!" Sandy yelled at Warrick. They returned to the car and drove to Dragon Bay.
"Mom, wait! I'm telling the truth! My friend lent me this mansion!" Jared reassured Hannah.
"Wait? What are we waiting for? Do you want to be dragged out of here?" Gary fumed.
Jared was about to retaliate when he saw his father's frailty. He swallowed his pride and remained silent.
The security guard who'd taken the key returned. "Mr. Chance, I'm so sorry," he apologized. "We made a mistake. We're fools! We'll take you up immediately!"
He ordered the other guards, "Keep your batons! Get the car and take Mr. Chance and his family in!"
"Yes, sir!" The guards nodded, bringing a car to escort Jared and his parents to Dragon Bay.
In the car, Gary was silent, still skeptical of Jared.
"Oh my god, Jared! How generous of your friend to lend you a mansion!" Hannah exclaimed, delighted to be in Dragon Bay, inhaling the fragrant flowers.
"Don't worry, Mom. I'll introduce you to him soon," Jared replied, knowing she was eager to meet his generous friend. He planned to have Josephine meet his parents.
Meanwhile, Sandy and her companions arrived at a mountainside mansion. Juliette gasped. "Sandy, I'm so envious! This mansion is magnificent! I'd give ten years of my life for one like it!"
Sandy chuckled. "This is nothing! Prices here depend on elevation. See that one at the top? That's the most expensive. I wonder who owns it!"
