Chapter 126: Taking Your Life
"Jared, forget it," Hilda said, pulling his arm back. He lowered his hand when he saw Maria's expression. If their strained relationship became known, Franklin would undoubtedly tell his parents, causing them worry. Seeing Jared relent, Zayne composed himself but remained silent.
At that moment, a Bentley sped toward them, screeching to a halt. Everyone was stunned, Jared included. He hadn't expected Tommy to be waiting. Hilda, however, cried out, "It's that car! The same one Jared arrived in!"
The Bentley door opened, and a young man in a suit emerged. Approaching Jared, he said respectfully, "Mr. Chance, at your service."
Jared smiled faintly. He hadn't anticipated Tommy sending a replacement. He probably realizes I don't want to be seen with him, given his reputation.
"Hilda, let's get some dinner," Jared suggested.
Hilda's eyes gleamed with surprise and delight. She'd never been in a Bentley before.
Once inside, Jared deliberately wound up the window. With a sarcastic smile, he bid farewell. "Bye"
The Bentley quickly left Zayne and the others, still in shock.
"Wow, he really arrived in a Bentley! Unbelievable." "Could it be a friend's?" Amazement filled the air. "So what? He probably rented it."
Zayne spat on the ground before driving away. The others dispersed.
Meanwhile, at the Vintage Restaurant, Xavier confronted Felix in his office, seething with anger.
"Mr. Lawson, the Crimson Dragon Gang's reputation precedes itโa perfect record. Yet Jared is alive and unharmed! Explain this!" Xavier demanded.
Felix, responding to Xavier's accusations, stood up and slapped him hard across the face, sending him sprawling. Four burly men immediately pressed daggers to Xavier's throat.
"Damn it! You nearly got me killed, and you dare question me? If not for your million, I'd have fed you to the crocodiles!" Felix roared.
Xavier, utterly bewildered, didn't understand Felix's fury.
"Mr. Lawson, p-please don't hurt me. You didn't complete the job; you should return my money!"
Before he could finish, a man subtly adjusted his dagger, drawing blood.
"How dare you speak to Mr. Lawson like that? You know the rules! Your payment is non-refundable!" one of the men bellowed.
Terrorized by the dagger at his throat, Xavier dared not speak, let alone demand a refund.
"Get out! Mention this, and you're dead," Felix threatened. Their illegal activities demanded discretion. Exposure would ruin their reputation and future business.
