Chapter 79
Christopher wondered when he had signed the divorce agreement. Melody never gave him any documents. How could he have possibly signed it if he had seen it? His mind raced, trying to figure out where things had gone wrong. His fingers absently touched the paper. Suddenly, he felt something was amiss. The signature lacked any waiting marks.
He looked closer. This was a photocopy of the original. He rubbed it with his fingers again; it was indeed a copy. His panic subsided, replaced by a surge of anger.
“Melody! You crazy woman! You actually used a fake photocopy to mess with me!” Christopher gritted his teeth. He had thought it was the actual divorce agreement. It turned out to be a prank. How foolish he had been to panic and doubt himself!
No. He wasn’t panicking. He was just angry and couldn't remember signing it. He stood, looking at the scraps of paper on the floor. His rage peaked; he stomped on the pieces, grinding them under his foot.
His friend requests remained unaccepted, so he sent more messages, this time filled with anger. Meanwhile, Melody's phone on the table vibrated occasionally at the fondue restaurant.
Finally, Heidi looked up and said, “Who’s this telemarketer? Let me see. I’ll make sure they never bother you again.” As she reached for Melody’s phone, Melody grabbed it first and placed it on the couch.
“I’ll delete him in a bit,” she said, muting the phone. “I bought a house, and the telemarketer is from a furniture company,” she explained, effectively silencing Heidi’s further inquiries.
“I understand his job might be tough, but he’s bothering you. You should report him,” Heidi said. Melody nodded, and they continued eating.
Soon, Heidi went to get some beer, and Melody opened her phone. Dozens of messages from Christopher filled her friend requests.
“Melody, you actually deleted me? How dare you!”
“Since you’ve been discharged, why didn’t you come home? Where the hell did you go? Are you with that bastard again?”
“Damn it! Melody, if you dare cheat on me, I’ll make your life a living hell!”
The rest were insults and demands that she add him back. She remained expressionless, her eyes cold. What an idiot Christopher was. She clearly had nothing to do with Anthony; he was imagining things. Moreover, even if there were something, what right did he have to question her? Hadn't he already cheated on her? He had even teamed up with the other woman to bully her.
But even after leaving for two days, he still hadn't seen the divorce agreement. If he had, he shouldn't be meddling in her life anymore. As Melody scrolled to the bottom of the messages, she realized he hadn't noticed the documents she had left on the bedside table.
“You lunatic! You actually used a photocopy to threaten me, thinking I’m too stupid to see through it?”
“You had better get your ass back here. I won’t make a big deal out of this prank.”
“My patience is running out. If you don’t reply in three minutes, don’t blame me for taking action.”
“Don’t make me come after you in person. You’ll regret it if I do!”
She read through them, then rolled her eyes. Christopher really was crying. He was actually losing his mind while texting her. Did he say he wasn't stupid? Well, he was a fool for sure.
