Chapter 71

Hearing this, Christopher furrowed his brows and said seriously, “Ms. Brown, please watch your words and stop slandering me.”

Heidi found this amusing and replied, “You two are holding hands right now, and I saw the trending news this morning.”

He looked down and noticed Cynthia had linked her arm through his. He immediately pushed her arm away.

Cynthia gritted her teeth, a forced smile on her face while her eyes glared at Heidi.

“The trending news is baseless. Ms. Brown, don’t believe everything you hear,” he said, his tone cold.

Heidi scoffed, sensing Christopher was intoxicated. Even with the evidence, he denied it.

“Isn’t the necklace your lover is wearing the one worth a billion? Christopher, next time you deny it, at least hide the evidence,” she mocked.

He turned to look at Cynthia’s neck. He moved to remove the necklace.

“Christopher, what are you doing? You gave this to me last night,” Cynthia quickly stepped back, covering her neck.

“Impossible. That necklace is for my wife, and you don’t deserve to wear it.” He stared at her, trying to reach for the necklace again.

Cynthia dodged him, tears welling in her eyes. Glaring at Heidi, who was enjoying the spectacle, she bit her lip, adopting a pitiful expression. “Miss, I have no conflict with you. Why are you targeting me like this?”

“Where did you get the idea that I’m targeting you? I’m just speaking the truth,” Heidi said, crossing her arms.

She looked at Cynthia with disdain. To Heidi, Cynthia’s act of playing the delicate flower was transparent. Only someone as blind as Christopher would fall for it.

“You’re clearly doing this on purpose, trying to drive a wedge between Christopher and me,” Cynthia accused.

Heidi was about to retort but changed her tactic. She smiled slightly. “Of course I am! Who knows, I might have to deal with you in the future. Let me tell you, my father was planning to have me marry Christopher.”

Cynthia recoiled slightly. Heidi’s appearance and demeanor suggested wealth, and her relationship with Christopher seemed genuine. She began to believe Heidi’s words.

Seeing Cynthia’s uncertainty, Heidi left, throwing one last remark over her shoulder: “Christopher, you lowlife. I’m going to tell your grandfather about your affair.”

Christopher, half-drunk, caught only the main point and shouted, “I didn’t have an affair!”

She couldn’t care less about his ramblings. A married man involved with a mistress was trash. What she said earlier was just to tease Cynthia. Even if all the men in the world disappeared, she would never be interested in such a man. But who was Christopher's wife? What bad luck for her. She must have committed some grave sin in a past life to marry him.

With that thought, Heidi quickened her pace. Melody hadn’t even waited for her; she’d missed the entertainment.

The car stopped in the plaza outside the restaurant. In her high heels, Heidi spotted a woman’s figure in the distance and waved as she jogged over.

At that moment, Melody turned around. She’d wanted Heidi to hurry but suddenly saw Christopher approaching from behind. Quickly, she crouched down and continued walking bent over, using the car for cover.

The car window was tapped, and Anthony instinctively looked, recognizing Melody. He quickly opened the car door.

However, she didn’t sit in the passenger seat. Instead, she went straight to the back seat, looking flustered.

“What’s wrong? Did you run into trouble?” he asked quickly.

“N-No,” she replied, trying to calm her racing heart.

“Anthony, can you drive? Please take me to the next intersection,” she added, her tone anxious.
