Chapter 37

Christopher tried to convince himself as he began eating. The first bite of the pork chops almost made him dizzy with pleasure; his happiness and satisfaction reached their peak. He ate faster and faster; the sound of his rapid consumption made him seem like a pig devouring its meal. Melody glanced at him, unable to hide her disgust. What she once admired, she now hated. However, she was temporarily stuck in this situation, having to submit.

Three dishes, a bowl of rice, and a soup were completely devoured in just ten minutes. Christopher wiped his mouth and hands with a wet napkin. Melody had already approached him to collect the lunch box, turned, and left without hesitation.

He rushed to leave, and Christopher couldn't help but ask, "Have you eaten?" He had eaten so quickly, forgetting to leave any for her, and for some reason, he felt a little guilty. She didn't answer and was already at the door.

"Hey, I'm asking you something!" He raised his voice slightly.

"I've already eaten," Melody said coldly, not looking back as she shut the door. Christopher was speechless.

"Why did she become so temperamental after being admitted to the hospital? Women are such a hassle," he muttered. He thought back to the past. Melody hadn't been like this before, especially when they had just married. She was gentle and considerate, always smiling at him. Why was she so cold now, and why didn't she seem to care about him anymore? He suspected she was still angry and would return to her old self after a while.

Meanwhile, when Melody went downstairs, a message popped up on her phone—he had already ordered dinner again. She rolled her eyes irritably. "All you do is eat. I hope you choke," she thought.

Having finally eaten the food he'd craved for half a month, Christopher was in a great mood. In the afternoon, he worked efficiently, and the project manager, who had expected a difficult time, came out unscathed. Even the project manager found this unbelievable.

"Did something good happen to Mr. Fuller today?" the project manager asked, trying to get information from Sheldon. Sheldon paused before nodding. The project manager was curious, but Sheldon just said, "I guess he enjoyed his lunch."

"Which restaurant is it? I'll go try it out, too," the project manager said.

"It's exclusive," Sheldon replied, smiling. The project manager blinked in confusion for a moment, then seemed to understand, his expression suddenly one of surprise. Did Christopher really get involved with that low-tier, barely known model?

Since Christopher had said he would be late for dinner, Melody didn't rush to cook. She was practicing her drawing in the living room, completely forgetting the time, when suddenly, the doorbell rang. She thought it was Cynthia returning, but it was Christopher.

Sending her a puzzled gaze, he removed his shoes and said awkwardly, "I left work early today." She didn't respond, focusing on packing her computer and tablet.

"Are you drawing?" he asked, walking toward her while removing his coat. He glanced at the screen, but she immediately shut it down.

"Is there something I can't see?" Christopher asked, annoyed.

"Nothing," Melody said, standing up with the computer in her arms and walking around him to the other side. He reached out and blocked her path. "I saw you drawing last time and even had Sheldon take your computer to the hospital. Why didn't I know you liked to draw?"

"Did you ever care about me?" Melody glanced at him, her face expressionless as she asked.
