Chapter 79: Grandmaโs Day Out
When Cameron received the call, he didnโt know what to say. He deeply regretted transferring the house to Serra just days before. Cameron couldnโt understand Bradleyโs erratic moves; as a secretary, what could he say? He just had to follow orders, though he wondered if their CEO would regret this again later.
When Somma got the call from Cameron, she was helping Lily pack up some things. Oscar had mentioned that Lily was well enough to go home for a couple of days. Lily was curious about the new house, so Sierra thought it a good idea to describe the houseโs setup to Lily and Dickson when Cameronโs call came through. Hearing his diplomatically phrased request, Sierra couldnโt help but laugh, though she wasnโt surprised in the slightest.
After all, going back on their word and breaking agreements was typical behavior for the Xander family. Unfortunately for them, the world didnโt revolve around them, nor could they have everything their way.
โPlease tell Mr. Bradley that the transfer of the house is complete, and itโs now in my name. I have no plans to change that or sell anytime soon. If heโs not satisfied, heโs welcome to sue. Also, tell him to stop bothering me and making me unhappy; otherwise, heโll regret it.โ
With that, Sierra hung up. Such trifles couldnโt disturb her peace. She asked Oscar about any precautions they needed to take, then prepared to take her grandmother home. However, Oscar stopped her.
He offered Serra a bouquet of flowers. โA patient gave these to me; theyโre just wasting away in my office. Give them to grandmother as a little gift for her temporary discharge.โ Bowen had been for her. Sierra would have declined, but Oscar had put it that way, so she accepted them with a โThank you.โ โYouโre welcome! Let me know if you need anything,โ Oscar added.
Sierra nodded, thanked him again, and returned to the room. Seeing her return with a bouquet, Jonathan unconsciously furrowed his brow and then asked, โWhere did the flowers come from? Theyโre pretty.โ
โDr. Zahn gave them to Grandma,โ Serra replied, presenting the flowers to her grandmother. โA patient gave them to Dr. Zahn, and he said theyโre to celebrate your temporary discharge. Grandma, do you like them?โ
Hearing they were from Dr. Zahn, Lily was delighted, nodding vigorously. Dickson chimed in, โDr. Zahn is so thoughtful; I saw him buying flowers at noon.โ
Sierra hadnโt expected this gesture and guessed it was probably a pretext because he thought she wouldnโt accept them otherwise. Lily didnโt hold back her praises for Oscar, even with Jonathan there. The implication was quite clear.
Serra understood her grandmotherโs hint, and she felt a bit helpless, glancing at Jonathan subconsciously. Jonathan observed their interaction, his expression as usual, which inexplicably disappointed Sierra. She spoke up, โAlright, Grandina, letโs not talk about this anymore. Letโs go home.โ
Lily finally dropped the subject, and Sierra pushed her grandmotherโs wheelchair ahead, with Jonathan and Dickson carrying things behind them. They arrived home. Dickson, looking around the spacious house in disbelief, hardly believed he could live in such a nice place.
Lily was also nervous. โSierra, are you sure itโs okay for us to live here?โ
โItโs fine, I own the house now. This is our home from now on.โ
Lily and Dickson both seemed uncomfortable, taking a while to relax. It was the familyโs first dinner together at home, and Serra prepared several dishes. She had invited Jonathan, but he declined.
โA day like this should be just for your family. It wouldnโt be right for me to join, and besides, I have to run an errand.โ
Sierra was a bit disappointed; she had hoped Jonathan would be there today. Lately, Jonathan had been a great help to her. In her heart, Jonathan might not be family, but he was like one. However, it seemed he didnโt feel the same way. Maybe she was just being too informal because he was naturally helpful and kind.
Seeing Sierra go off excitedly and return disappointed, Lily couldnโt help but ask, โSierra, do you like Mr. Yeager?โ
Sierra was taken aback, then shook her head without hesitation. โNo!โ She knew all too well what Jonathanโs status was in the biochemistry department โ a godlike figure. The distance between them was more than just vast.
