Chapter 79: Grandmaโ€™s Day Out

When Cameron received the call, he didnโ€™t know what to say. He deeply regretted transferring the house to Serra just days before. Cameron couldnโ€™t understand Bradleyโ€™s erratic moves; as a secretary, what could he say? He just had to follow orders, though he wondered if their CEO would regret this again later.

When Somma got the call from Cameron, she was helping Lily pack up some things. Oscar had mentioned that Lily was well enough to go home for a couple of days. Lily was curious about the new house, so Sierra thought it a good idea to describe the houseโ€™s setup to Lily and Dickson when Cameronโ€™s call came through. Hearing his diplomatically phrased request, Sierra couldnโ€™t help but laugh, though she wasnโ€™t surprised in the slightest.

After all, going back on their word and breaking agreements was typical behavior for the Xander family. Unfortunately for them, the world didnโ€™t revolve around them, nor could they have everything their way.

โ€œPlease tell Mr. Bradley that the transfer of the house is complete, and itโ€™s now in my name. I have no plans to change that or sell anytime soon. If heโ€™s not satisfied, heโ€™s welcome to sue. Also, tell him to stop bothering me and making me unhappy; otherwise, heโ€™ll regret it.โ€

With that, Sierra hung up. Such trifles couldnโ€™t disturb her peace. She asked Oscar about any precautions they needed to take, then prepared to take her grandmother home. However, Oscar stopped her.

He offered Serra a bouquet of flowers. โ€œA patient gave these to me; theyโ€™re just wasting away in my office. Give them to grandmother as a little gift for her temporary discharge.โ€ Bowen had been for her. Sierra would have declined, but Oscar had put it that way, so she accepted them with a โ€œThank you.โ€ โ€œYouโ€™re welcome! Let me know if you need anything,โ€ Oscar added.

Sierra nodded, thanked him again, and returned to the room. Seeing her return with a bouquet, Jonathan unconsciously furrowed his brow and then asked, โ€œWhere did the flowers come from? Theyโ€™re pretty.โ€

โ€œDr. Zahn gave them to Grandma,โ€ Serra replied, presenting the flowers to her grandmother. โ€œA patient gave them to Dr. Zahn, and he said theyโ€™re to celebrate your temporary discharge. Grandma, do you like them?โ€

Hearing they were from Dr. Zahn, Lily was delighted, nodding vigorously. Dickson chimed in, โ€œDr. Zahn is so thoughtful; I saw him buying flowers at noon.โ€

Sierra hadnโ€™t expected this gesture and guessed it was probably a pretext because he thought she wouldnโ€™t accept them otherwise. Lily didnโ€™t hold back her praises for Oscar, even with Jonathan there. The implication was quite clear.

Serra understood her grandmotherโ€™s hint, and she felt a bit helpless, glancing at Jonathan subconsciously. Jonathan observed their interaction, his expression as usual, which inexplicably disappointed Sierra. She spoke up, โ€œAlright, Grandina, letโ€™s not talk about this anymore. Letโ€™s go home.โ€

Lily finally dropped the subject, and Sierra pushed her grandmotherโ€™s wheelchair ahead, with Jonathan and Dickson carrying things behind them. They arrived home. Dickson, looking around the spacious house in disbelief, hardly believed he could live in such a nice place.

Lily was also nervous. โ€œSierra, are you sure itโ€™s okay for us to live here?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s fine, I own the house now. This is our home from now on.โ€

Lily and Dickson both seemed uncomfortable, taking a while to relax. It was the familyโ€™s first dinner together at home, and Serra prepared several dishes. She had invited Jonathan, but he declined.

โ€œA day like this should be just for your family. It wouldnโ€™t be right for me to join, and besides, I have to run an errand.โ€

Sierra was a bit disappointed; she had hoped Jonathan would be there today. Lately, Jonathan had been a great help to her. In her heart, Jonathan might not be family, but he was like one. However, it seemed he didnโ€™t feel the same way. Maybe she was just being too informal because he was naturally helpful and kind.

Seeing Sierra go off excitedly and return disappointed, Lily couldnโ€™t help but ask, โ€œSierra, do you like Mr. Yeager?โ€

Sierra was taken aback, then shook her head without hesitation. โ€œNo!โ€ She knew all too well what Jonathanโ€™s status was in the biochemistry department โ€“ a godlike figure. The distance between them was more than just vast.
