Chapter 73: Another Chance
As soon as Sierra finished speaking, she clearly sensed Kasonโs excitement rising. He spoke with a hint of enthusiasm, โThatโs quite an unusual taste, but I like it.โ Sierra smiled without saying a word. She knew Kason had taken the bait.
Overall, the meal went smoothly. She kept feeding Kason ambiguous words, and she could tell the way he looked at her had changed. It burned with even more intensity. In the end, Kason properly escorted her to the entrance of her apartment complex.
โItโs too late, so I wonโt invite you up today. Letโs meet another time,โ Sierra said casually to Kason before turning and walking inside. She could feel his scorching gaze on her back, but it only filled her with disgust.
Kason hadnโt expected Sierra to give him such a surprise, which only deepened his interest in her. However, he couldnโt rush things. Sierra might be a littleโฆfraudulent. He decided to observe her a little longer.
Once Sierra was out of Kasonโs sight, she finally let out a breath. Just then, a voice rang out, โIf youโre so scared, why bother going at all?โ
Startled, Sierra snapped back to her senses and saw Jonathan standing behind her, without her noticing his arrival. She let out a sigh of relief and quickly said, โQuick, Mr. Yeager, let me look at you and erase his face from my mind.โ
With that, she stared at Jonathan intently. After seeing someone as twisted as Kason, she urgently needed to look at a normal person to recover.
Jonathan chuckled at her expression but suddenly thought of something. Suppressing his smile, he adjusted his glasses and said, โDid it ever cross your mind that I might be a creep just like Kason?โ
โYouโre not!โ Sierra blurted out without hesitation.
โOh, and how do you know that?โ Jonathan looked away, his tone indifferent. โYouโre too easy to fool. How long have you known me?โ
โIโve known you for a long time! Weโre just strangers who have never met before, yet youโre willing to help a stranger so much. How could someone like you be a bad person?โ Thinking of this, she smiled and said, โIt hasnโt been long, but I trust you!โ
โThor,โ Jonathan commented bluntly, but the corners of his lips curled up slightly. Sierra didnโt argue. The two chatted as they walked upstairs.
The next morning, Sierra didnโt have any classes, so she went to the hospital to visit Lily and Dickson. She had asked the doctor to place them in the same room.
After spending the past few days together, Lily and Dickson had grown quite close. With no other family, Dickson had begun to see Lily as his own grandma. His injuries were mostly healed. When he saw Sierra enter, he immediately stood up and called out, โSierra, come sit!โ
Sierra glanced at him, noting that he had recovered well, and nodded in approval. Perhaps because of Dicksonโs company, Lily seemed much more spirited. Sierra felt reassured. She had made the right choice. Lily would have been too lonely in the hospital by herself.
Moreover, after using the medicine Jonathan had sent over, Lily looked noticeably better.
Lily held Sierraโs hand and asked about her situation. When she learned that Sierra had completely cut ties with the Xander family, a trace of heartache flashed in her eyes. But soon, she said firmly, โThatโs fine. We donโt need them! We have Dickson now. Weโll be just fine as a family.โ
After chatting for a while, Lily grew tired. Dickson pulled Sierra outside. He clearly had something to say.
โSierra, Grandma got a call yesterday. Afterward, she wasnโt in a good mood. I asked her about it, but she wouldnโt say,โ Dickson said.
Hearing this, Sierra thought for a moment before replying, โI know what itโs about.โ The only person who could affect Lilyโs mood like that was Yulia.
Previously, Yulia had been beaten by James, leaving her with a fractured bone. Sierra had helped report it to the police, but Yulia later regretted it. After that, Sierra had left her alone. Still, it wasnโt hard to imagine that Yulia wasnโt doing well. But Sierra had no intention of interfering. Yulia had made her own choices.
โThank you for these past few days. I can see that Grandma is in much better spirits,โ Sierra said.
Dickson quickly shook his head. โItโs not because of me. I should be the one thanking you.โ If not for Sierra giving him hope, he wouldnโt even know what heโd be doing with his life right now.
โI just spoke with the doctor. You can be discharged tomorrow. You can stay at my place for now, and then think about what you want to do next. Do you want to continue your studies?โ Sierra asked.
Dickson looked at her in disbelief. Ever since Daphne was imprisoned, he had dropped out of school. He had never even dared to imagine that he might have another chance to study.
