Chapter 71: Moving in Next Door

Knowing what Bradley was thinking, Sierra chose not to expose him. For the Xander family, spending money was just a way to ease their conscience. She only hoped Bradley wouldnโ€™t regret giving her the house later. After all, her purpose for approaching Kason was far from simple.

The Xander family acted quickly. In just a single day, her observation period and household registration issues were all settled. From this moment on, she was completely severed from the Xander family. A lightness she had never felt before filled her chest. She wanted to share this joy with someone and couldnโ€™t help but call Jonathan.

โ€œMr. Yeager, are you free? Iโ€™d like to treat you to a meal.โ€

Ironically, the only person she could think of to share her happiness with was Jonathan. There was no reply from him, only the sound of soft breathing. โ€œJonathan?โ€ Sierra called out again. This time, she finally got a response.

โ€œAlright,โ€ Jonathan said.

After hanging up, Jonathan glanced at the screen in front of him, which was filled with blood. He tapped his finger lightly and spoke, โ€œItโ€™s done.โ€ As he spoke, he picked up the glasses resting on the table and put them on, hiding the cold glint in his eyes. Once again, he became the refined Mr. Yeager.

Sierra took Jonathan out for barbecue, but after sitting down, she felt the choice was a bit inappropriate. She had a feeling Jonathan belonged in an upscale restaurant, dining with precision and elegance, not in a place filled with the smoky scent of grilled meat. She couldnโ€™t help but say, โ€œMr. Yeager, letโ€™s go somewhere else.โ€ She felt he didnโ€™t fit in here at all.

Jonathan raised an eyebrow and glanced at her. โ€œWhy change? This place is fine.โ€ As he spoke, he took off his suit jacket, unbuttoned his cuffs, and rolled up his sleeves to his elbows before grilling a plate of beef. The sense of disharmony instantly faded, replaced by a touch of warmth.

Seeing this, Sierra couldnโ€™t help but say, โ€œI just feel like this place is beneath you.โ€ Then, she laughed at herself. โ€œYou give me the feeling of someone who should be worshipped on an altar,โ€ as if untouched by the mundane world.

Jonathan chuckled at her words. โ€œAre you complimenting me or mocking me?โ€

โ€œComplimenting! Definitely a compliment! Iโ€™m in a great mood today, and I wanted someone to celebrate with. But aside from you, my grandma, and my newly adopted little brother, I donโ€™t know who else to call. Grandina and Dickson canโ€™t eat this kind of food, so weโ€™ll celebrate again when theyโ€™re better.โ€

Sierra rambled on, her happiness evident. She was usually more reserved, but today, her eyes sparkled with joy.

2:22 PM

Jonathan watched her for a moment before speaking. โ€œYour condition for cutting ties with the Xander family was marrying Kason. Are you really this happy about it?โ€

โ€œOf course!โ€ Sierraโ€™s lips curved into a smile. โ€œI canโ€™t wait to see him.โ€ A flash of cold malice passed through her eyes, a gleam like Kason didnโ€™t deserve to exist in this world. Jonathan didnโ€™t know her exact plan, but seeing her expression, he could guess. Recalling what he had heard about Kason, he had some ideas about what might be driving her. Perhaps it was related to that woman, Daphne.

Serra had been strangely ever since she fell ill. Jonathan had a hunch about her motives, but he didnโ€™t understand. She had always claimed that she and Daphne were merely acquaintances, yet she was willing to go this far for someone she barely knew. He couldnโ€™t help but ask, โ€œKason isnโ€™t an easy target. Have you really thought this through?โ€

Sierra looked at him in surprise. She hadnโ€™t expected him to figure out what she was planning. She nodded slowly. โ€œYes, I have.โ€

Jonathan pressed his lips together. โ€œYou donโ€™t have to do this.โ€

Sierra smiled. โ€œBut some things just have to be done.โ€

โ€œIdiot! What a fool!โ€ Jonathan wanted to scold her, but seeing the fire in her eyes, he couldnโ€™t bring himself to say anything. โ€œWell, I wish you success.โ€ He raised his cup of tea. He suddenly wanted to see how far Sierra would go and whether she would actually succeed.

โ€œIโ€™ll take that as a blessing!โ€ Sierra clinked her glass against his, then blinked at him playfully. โ€œOh, right, Mr. Yeager, I haveโ€ฆ some bad news for you.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Jonathan asked.

โ€œYouโ€™re probably going to be seeing a lot more of me from now on. Iโ€™m moving in next door!โ€

As it turned out, the house Bradley gave her was right beside Jonathanโ€™s. She had only found out when finalizing the transfer that afternoon.
