Chapter 51: Nowhere to Go

Johnathan nodded slightly, then looked at Sierra. โ€œAm I interrupting?โ€

Sierra couldnโ€™t help but smile. Sometimes, Johnathanโ€™s way of speaking was truly sharp. Yaron clearly remembered what had happened last time. If it had just been Sierra, he might have stayed longer, but with Johnathan here, he couldnโ€™t keep up the act. He quickly said, โ€œMr. Johnathan, I just came to check on Sierra. I have class now, so Iโ€™ll get going. You two talk.โ€

Then he left in a hurry.

Johnathan walked over and naturally placed his hand on Sierraโ€™s forehead again. Feeling that her temperature had gone down, he finally pulled back. He pushed aside the glass of water Yaron had poured and instead poured her a fresh one. Only then did he speak. โ€œWhat did he want!โ€

โ€œNo idea,โ€ Sierra shook her head. She couldnโ€™t care less about Yaron.

But as she thought about something else, she hesitated for a moment and glanced at Johnathan uncertainly.

โ€œSomething on your mind?โ€ Johnathan asked.

Sierra hesitated even more. Strictly speaking, she and Johnathan werenโ€™t that close. He didnโ€™t even know about her background, yet he had helped her multiple times.

โ€œIf thereโ€™s something, just say it. Didnโ€™t I tell you already? Stop carrying everything alone.โ€

Johnathan remained standing by her bedside. Sierraโ€™s heart wavered for a moment, and before she could stop herself, she said, โ€œCan you help me find someone?โ€

โ€œWho?โ€ Johnathan asked directly.

โ€œHer name is Daphne. She was in prison too. My number was 00061. Hers was 00060.โ€

At the mention of her prison number, Johnathan glanced at her but didnโ€™t say anything.

โ€œAlright.โ€ He didnโ€™t ask why she wanted to find this person. He simply agreed.

Sierra felt a weight lift off her chest. She spoke slowly. โ€œSheโ€™s already dead. I just want to know if her family is okay. If possible, Iโ€™d like an address.โ€

Johnathan nodded again. He pulled out his phone, typed something, then looked at her.

โ€œWill solving this let you sleep better?โ€

Sierra was caught off guard. She hadnโ€™t expected him to notice.

โ€œThe school nurse said you were restless even while getting the IV.โ€ That was his explanation.

Sierra thought for a moment and nodded. โ€œMaybe.โ€

It had been a long time since she had slept well. If she hadnโ€™t seen it with her own eyes, she wouldnโ€™t have believed such horrors existed in this world. Just like if she hadnโ€™t lived through it herself, she wouldnโ€™t have known how deep madness could go.

โ€œThank you for today, Johnathan. Youโ€™ve helped me so many timesโ€”I donโ€™t even know how to repay you.โ€ Sierra changed the subject. She didnโ€™t want to dwell on heavy topics.

โ€œIf you want to repay me, get better soon and focus on your research. I want to see if you can surprise me,โ€ Johnathan said casually.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry.โ€ Sierra smiled. Even if he hadnโ€™t reminded her, she wouldโ€™ve worked hard on it. Her grandmotherโ€™s health wouldnโ€™t hold up forever.

After finishing her IV, she felt much better and didnโ€™t want to lie down any longer. She got up to leave.

โ€œWhere to? Iโ€™ll drive you,โ€ Johnathan asked.

Sierra thought for a moment, then said, โ€œThe hospital.โ€ Her grandmother had a private room with a small couch where she could rest for a bit. Besides, she had nowhere else to go. Despite living in a huge city, she had no home of her own.

Johnathan glanced at her but said nothing. He simply led her to his car. Maybe it was because Johnathan was there, but Sierra felt at ease. Without realizing it, she drifted off to sleep.

When she woke up, she realized they werenโ€™t heading to the hospital. She wasnโ€™t alarmed, just puzzled. โ€œWhere are we going?โ€

โ€œMy place.โ€ As he spoke, Johnathan smoothly turned into a gated community, parked the car, and opened the door, signaling for her to get out. Before Sierra could say anything, he added, โ€œI have some questions about your research. I need your help.โ€

Her chest felt warm. She knew Johnathan was only saying that to protect her pride. He knew she had nowhere to go, so he brought her home.

Her lips curled up slightly. โ€œMr. Johnathan, being too humble is just fake modesty. Careful with that.โ€ Then, she stepped out of the car and said plainly, โ€œThanks for taking me in. I really donโ€™t have anywhere else to go.โ€

She was straightforward. Johnathan had already seen her at her lowest. There was nothing to hide.

โ€œThe barโ€ฆ the wayโ€ฆ do you serve meals too?โ€ She was really hungry. She hadnโ€™t eaten a single thing since morning.

Johnathan raised a brow. โ€œYeah. You do the dishes.โ€
