Chapter 414 Into the Lionโ€™s Den

Johnathan hadnโ€™t expected his grandfather to agree so easily. The Wynn family estate was heavily guarded, and the old man never let anyone stay there. Even Quinn had only been allowed to live in the guardsโ€™ quarters at the foot of the mountainโ€”far from the main house.

But now, the old man was suggesting that Sierra move in too.

Johnathan hesitated. The estateโ€™s security was classified S-level. If Sierra lived there, it would put his mind at ease. Still, he couldnโ€™t figure out what his grandfather was really after.

After all, not long ago, the old man had been all too eager to use Quinn to drive a wedge between him and Sierra. Why the sudden change of heart?

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€

Sierra spoke up when she noticed his silence after the call.

Johnathan paused a moment before relaying what his grandfather had said.

Sierra thought for a moment, then replied, โ€œLetโ€™s go.โ€

Johnathan blinked in surprise. โ€œI thought you wouldnโ€™t want to.โ€

โ€œRight now, safety comes first.โ€

Nothing mattered more than Johnathanโ€™s safety. She still couldnโ€™t tell whether the recent threats were aimed at her or himโ€”but what had happened to him last time had truly shaken her.

If there was a safer place available, she had no reason to refuse.

When Johnathan had been on the brink of death that day, it was Wayne who brought the doctor. Whatever the old man thought of her, his care for Johnathan was real. And that alone was enough to convince her.

โ€œIโ€™ll think about it.โ€

Johnathan still didnโ€™t agree immediately. He and Sierra were on the same page: the estate was secure, yesโ€”but he worried sheโ€™d be mistreated there.

Sierra saw right through him and smiled. โ€œArenโ€™t you going to be there? Whoโ€™s going to bully me?โ€

That was all it took. Johnathan made up his mind. She was rightโ€”he would be there. No one, not even his grandfather, would be allowed to bully her.

The next day was another day of the summit. Like before, nothing happened.

When it ended, Johnathan and Sierra left quickly and headed straight for the estate.

It was Sierraโ€™s first time visiting the Wynn family homeโ€”one of the most important places to Johnathan, and outside of his father, the first place where she would meet one of his closest family members.

Though she already knew the Wynn family was different, seeing it up close left her stunned.

The entire mountainโ€”and even a few neighboring onesโ€”belonged to the Wynn family. The security measures in place were staggering: interception systems, surveillance, and more. Mateo had mentioned them to her, but now she saw for herself it wasnโ€™t an exaggeration.

Their car wasnโ€™t allowed to continue past the base of the mountain. They had to switch to a vehicle from the estate.

Sierra glanced at Johnathan. No wonder heโ€™d been so hesitant about coming back.

This place didnโ€™t feel like a home at all.

Noticing her discomfort, Johnathan gently patted her hand.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry about any of it. Just be yourself here, like always.โ€

Rules? Traditions? They meant nothing to him.

Before meeting Johnathanโ€™s grandfather, Sierra had felt a bit anxious. From what sheโ€™d heard and seen, she figured heโ€™d be a difficult man.

Back at the hospital, all her attention had been on Johnathanโ€”she hadnโ€™t paid much attention to anyone else.

She hadnโ€™t seen Wayne again since.

As she was recalling what he looked like, Wayne slowly emerged with a cane in hand. He nodded warmly at her. โ€œWell, we meet again, young lady.โ€

Sierra stared at him for a moment before recognizing him as the elderly man sheโ€™d run into at Dickson School.

Back then, she thought he was a retired teacher. Sheโ€™d never guessed he was Johnathanโ€™s grandfather.

โ€œYouโ€™ve met before?โ€

Johnathanโ€™s expression shifted instantly.

Wayne gave him a calm glance. โ€œI was touring the school and ran into her by chance.โ€

They both knew that wasnโ€™t the whole truth.

Wayne hadnโ€™t planned to tell Johnathan about their meetingโ€”but now that they were face to face again, there was no hiding it. Better to say it himself than let Sierra explain.

Snapping back to the present, Sierra quickly said, โ€œHello, sir.โ€

โ€œIf youโ€™re dating this brat, you might as well just call me Grandpa.โ€

Wayne seemed easygoing, but Sierra knew better than to overstep. She simply smiled.

Wayne chatted with her for a bit, then turned to Johnathan.

โ€œYou. Come with me to the study.โ€

Johnathan nodded and told the butler to take Sierra to his room.
