Chapter 395 Never That Important

When they saw the man in the wheelchair, both mother and sonโ€™s expressions changed. Susie instinctively stepped closer to the bed, shielding Jose behind her protectively.

She forced a smile and greeted him, โ€œJohnathan, what brings you here?โ€

Johnathanโ€™s gaze lingered on Susieโ€™s face for quite a while. In all these years, it was the first time he had looked at Chaseโ€™s wife this seriously.

He had overheard everything the mother and son had just said. Even though there were bodyguards outside, they all knew who he was, and no one had dared to stop him.

He had always thought Susie was a two-faced woman, full of fake sweetness and hidden bladesโ€”but after hearing their exchange just now, that didnโ€™t seem to be the case.

Susie grew anxious under his silent stare. Her voice began to tremble.

โ€œJohnathanโ€ฆโ€

There was a hint of pleading in her eyes, but her frail body still stood firmly between him and Jose.

After a long moment, Johnathan finally spoke in a calm voice. โ€œI have questions for him.โ€

โ€œโ€ฆOkay.โ€

Susie stepped aside. Johnathan turned to Jose.

Jose was indeed โ€œinjuredโ€โ€”he looked badly hurt, but Johnathan could tell at a glance they were only surface wounds.

Jose hadnโ€™t expected Johnathan to come. His heart pounded nervously, especially seeing his mother trying to shield him. He was filled with conflicting emotions.

โ€œBesides helping Quinn escape and delivering Dora to her, what else have you done? Who were you in contact with?โ€

Johnathan stared coldly at him.

Panic surged in Joseโ€™s heart. He quickly said, โ€œI donโ€™t know what youโ€™re talking about.โ€

โ€œJose, I have very little patience. Next time, I wonโ€™t ask this nicely.โ€

Johnathanโ€™s voice was icy.

Susie quickly urged him, โ€œJose, just tell the truth!โ€

Jose gritted his teeth and pressed on, โ€œI really donโ€™t know what youโ€™re talking about.โ€

โ€œI know youโ€™ve never liked me. Youโ€™ve been scheming to get rid of me from the start. But Johnathan, if I didnโ€™t do it, then I didnโ€™t do it. Donโ€™t try to pin this on me.โ€

At that, Johnathan let out a cold laugh. Susie, meanwhile, gave a weary sigh.

โ€œScheming to get rid of me? Who do you think you are?โ€ Johnathan said with biting sarcasm. โ€œIf you hadnโ€™t kept jumping in front of me, I wouldnโ€™t even remember your name. Jose, donโ€™t overestimate your importance!โ€

There was nothing Jose couldโ€™ve heard that would enrage him more.

He had spent years treating Johnathan as his rival, his goalโ€”yet the other party had never even bothered to acknowledge his existence. It was beyond humiliating.

But the most humiliating part was what Johnathan said next.

โ€œIf I wanted you gone, Iโ€™ve had countless chances. When you were ten, you were kidnapped. You walked away safelyโ€”not because you were smart, not because the kidnappers were idiotsโ€”but because I took them all out. When you were fifteen, there was a lab explosion due to your own mistake. You hid it from the family and handled it on your own. You managed to cover it upโ€”not because you were so capable, but because I cleaned up the mess for you. If I so much as lifted a finger, you wouldnโ€™t be standing here talking to me right now. Understand?โ€

Johnathanโ€™s words didnโ€™t just shock Susie and Joseโ€”Sierra was stunned as well.

She had always thought Johnathan wished Jose dead. She never imagined he had done so much for him behind the scenes.

Back then, when he was helping the younger brother he despised the most, how bitter must he have felt inside?

Johnathan always said he was cold and heartless, that he wasnโ€™t a good person. But even during his most rebellious years, he never kicked Jose while he was down. He just quietly saved his lifeโ€”again and again.

Knowing Johnathan, he wouldnโ€™t have said any of this under normal circumstances. The only reason he did nowโ€ฆ was because he had finally let it go.

Let go of his hatred for Susie and Jose.

Let go of the resentment he held toward Chase.

Jose was the most shaken of them all. His lips trembled, unable to believe what heโ€™d just heard.

โ€œYouโ€ฆ all of thatโ€ฆ itโ€™s true?โ€ he stammered. โ€œNoโ€ฆ no way! Thatโ€™s impossible! You never even looked at meโ€”you wouldnโ€™t even spare me a glanceโ€ฆโ€

Joseโ€™s words came out disjointed, completely thrown into chaos.
