Chapter 347: A Different Kind of Justice

โ€œTrevโ€”where is he?โ€ Jonathan asked, his voice cold and tight.

Maddox pressed his lips together. โ€œDownstairs.โ€

Jonathan turned, ready to go down and finish what heโ€™d startedโ€”but Sierra stepped in front of him. She knew exactly what he was planning.

โ€œCan I handle this?โ€ she asked.

Jonathan gave a small nod. Sierra then turned to Maddox. โ€œMaddox, is the Treno family handing him over to us?โ€

โ€œโ€ฆYes,โ€ Maddox replied quietly.

โ€œGood. Then let him face the consequences of what heโ€™s done,โ€ Sierra said, locking eyes with Maddox. โ€œYesterday wasnโ€™t the first time, was it? Heโ€™s probably done things like this before. I want him properly tried.โ€

If Jonathan dealt with Trev, the outcome would be brutalโ€”crippling, even. That would serve as justice for her, but not for the others. The women Trev had hurt before never saw justice. If she let Jonathan take matters into his own hands, sheโ€™d just be making it about herself.

No. This time, she wanted fairnessโ€”for everyone. If the Treno family didnโ€™t interfere, Trev would receive a fair and public trial.

Maddox hadnโ€™t expected Sierra to take this route. He froze, then frowned. โ€œAre you sure?โ€

Heโ€™d already prepared for Trev to be crippled by Jonathan. The man never held back. Sparing Trevโ€™s life would already be a miracle. But this? This would send Trev to prison for years and publicly disgrace the Treno family.

โ€œIโ€™m sure,โ€ Sierra said firmly.

From the moment the Treno family had chosen to protect Trev, theyโ€™d become accomplices. Maddox understood the deeper meaning behind her words. He looked at Jonathan. โ€œAnd you? Do you agree?โ€

โ€œSierraโ€™s will is law,โ€ Jonathan answered calmly.

He stood to leave. Just before he walked out, he hesitated. โ€œI know itโ€™s useless, but I still want to sayโ€”Iโ€™m sorry.โ€

โ€œYou didnโ€™t do anything wrong,โ€ Sierra said, her gaze steady. โ€œYouโ€™re not the one who should be apologizing.โ€

Maddox gave a bitter smile and left. He knew that after this, a rift had formed between themโ€”one that wouldnโ€™t heal. Not because it was Trev whoโ€™d hurt her, but because of all the times theyโ€™d looked the other way. All the chances theyโ€™d had to stop himโ€”and didnโ€™t.

Noticing the change in his mood, Draven gave Mateo a subtle look, signaling him to follow Maddox. Mateo nodded and quietly slipped out.

Seeing Maddox walking in silence, Mateo couldnโ€™t help but speak up. โ€œYouโ€™re not mad at Sierra, are you?โ€

โ€œOf course not,โ€ Maddox gave a strained smile. โ€œI feel guilty.โ€

If they hadnโ€™t kept turning a blind eye to Trevโ€™s behavior, none of this wouldโ€™ve happened. And Sierra had been right. Trev had caused plenty of trouble before. Maddox had heard thingsโ€”rumors. But the victims were strangers, and he hadnโ€™t paid them much attention. Now, the victim was the girlfriend of his closest friend, and for the first time, the guilt hit him hard.

โ€œHe deserves to be punished,โ€ Maddox said quietly. It would hurt the Treno familyโ€™s reputationโ€”but maybe that would finally wake the others up.

Relieved that Maddox held no resentment, Mateo relaxed. โ€œSo what you said earlierโ€”is it true? Someone trying to drive a wedge between you and Jonathan?โ€

โ€œJust a hunch,โ€ Maddox said.

Meanwhile, upstairs, Stone and Draven were discussing the same theory with Jonathan and Sierra.

โ€œCould it be Shane?โ€ Stone asked.

It made the most sense. Shane had long been at odds with Jonathan, and the Treno and Wynn families held considerable influence. It wouldnโ€™t be surprising if Shane wanted to stir trouble between Jonathan and Maddox. After all, Jonathan was the undisputed heir of the Wynn familyโ€”a family that held incredible sway. If they took sides, everything could shift in an instant.

โ€œShaneโ€™s been transferred. The Goodman familyโ€™s been keeping a low profile lately,โ€ Draven said, though he didnโ€™t sound convinced.

Jonathan said nothing. His mind wasnโ€™t on politics. It was on Sierra. He kept thinking about the bite mark on her wristโ€”one sheโ€™d inflicted on herself. The pain she mustโ€™ve feltโ€ฆ

Seeing Jonathan so distant, Stone and Draven didnโ€™t linger. They knew they couldnโ€™t stay out of this. Each of them had already decided to start their own investigation into who was really behind it all.

Once the room was quiet again, Sierra finally said, โ€œGive me my phone. I need to tell my professor Iโ€™m taking the day off.โ€

โ€œI already did,โ€ Jonathan replied. โ€œTold them you were sick. They said to rest as long asโ€ฆโ€
